Solene clapped her hands, looking intrigued by the pastries Primrose mentioned.
"Yes! I think that’s fine!" she said excitedly.
"We actually eat those kinds of pastries too, but since they are usually served at banquets, we never thought of putting them on the tea party menu."
Primrose honestly didn’t get it.
Big chunks of meat were perfectly acceptable for a tea party, yet small meat pastries could only be found at banquets? That didn’t make much sense to her.
Noticing the confusion on Primrose’s face, Solene quickly added,
"Well, the pastries are too small for us. We only serve them at big events, like banquets, where there’s plenty of food to make up for it."
Ah, that explained it.
No wonder her ladies-in-waiting always said she ate too little, even though, in her heart, Primrose felt like she had been eating too much ever since she first stepped into this kingdom.
Maybe they told her she hadn’t changed much, so she could eat more without worrying about her weight.
Primrose sighed quietly.
Were they really just being kind, or had she actually gained weight without noticing back then?
Oh, who cared.
It wasn’t like she could change the past now.
Besides, if her husband still carried her around so easily, then maybe it wasn’t such a big deal.
Primrose shook her head, brushing the silly thought away.
Right now, there were more important things to focus on, like surviving this so-called tea party without embarrassing herself in front of everyone.
"Well then," Primrose said, clearing her throat, "Let’s stick to the plan. We’ll serve those meat-based pastries."
Solene beamed. "As you wish, Your Majesty. I’m sure everyone will love it."
Primrose could only hope so. After all, this wasn’t just about food.
It was her first real step toward blending in with this kingdom, with these people.
The baker arrived later that afternoon, just an hour before dinner, carrying the samples she had asked for. Primrose carefully inspected them one by one.
The pastries were simple but lovely, baked until perfectly golden, filled with warm, savory meat and fresh vegetables. The smell alone made her stomach grumble.
There were beef pastry puffs, delicate mini quiches, and chicken and mushroom tartlets, just as she had suggested.
After Salem took the first bite and assured her there was nothing wrong with them, Primrose finally reached out and tasted them herself.
To her surprise, they were good. Really good.
The pastry was warm and flaky, melting on her tongue, while the filling was rich, flavorful, and satisfying. For a moment, she forgot all about the nerves twisting inside her.
She couldn’t help but sway a little as she chewed, it was just too delicious, making her act like a little bunny overwhelmed by the taste of a fresh carrot.
[I doubt people will hate Her Majesty,] Solene thought. [She’s far too adorable to be hated.]
