Samantha stirred slightly in Finley’s arms, her brow furrowing at the noise from the executive. Finley noticed and shot a sharp, icy glare at the executive, who shut his mouth. The executive thought, Man, Mr. Dean’s glare could freeze someone in their tracks!
Thanks to his connections with Dean Corporation, Elias brought Emily inside without any issues outside the meeting room. Once inside, Emily wasted no time heading straight for the, refreshment table, helping herself to cakes, snacks, fruit, wine–whatever was laid out.
She was enjoying her treats when she spotted Hazel approaching. Her expression promptly changed. “Why are you here?” Emily asked, clearly irritated.
Hazel remained bitter toward Emily and Samantha after they’d tricked her once, but with Finley backing Emily, she couldn’t touch her. However, Samantha was a different story, with no one protecting her.
Yet today, Hazel wasn’t out to pick a fight. She and her dad had been stuck in the lobby for what felt like forever, and the meeting still hadn’t started. Growing restless, she noticed Emily casually snacking and decided to see if she knew what was happening.
Picking up a glass of wine, Hazel sidled up to Emily. “Well, this is Mr. Dean’s tendering meeting, so I’m obviously here for that. What about you? What brings you here?”
With a smug smile, Emily answered, “Oh, I was bored at home. Fin mentioned a tendering meeting at his company today and said I could tag along if I wanted. So, I figured, why not?”

In reality, it was Elias who had brought her. However, Emily didn’t flinch while bending the truth. If there was one thing she knew how to do, it was bluff with confidence.
Surprisingly, Hazel believed her. Taking a sip of her wine, she smirked. “Wow, I didn’t realize you were so close to Mr. Dean. That’s quite the connection.”
She wasn’t done yet, though. “Since you’re so tight with Mr. Dean, tell me–when did you two get here?”
Emily didn’t miss a beat. “Oh, we’ve been here much earlier than everyone else.”
Hazel raised an eyebrow. “Is that right? Then why hasn’t the meeting begun yet? What’s Mr. Dean been doing all this time?”
Caught off guard, Emily quickly improvised. “Well, he went into the room to work after we arrived. I’m not really sure what he’s up to right now.”
