Chapter 16 Engagement Day
In Loganberry Lane of Saeville, everyone rushed toward it.
A pickup truck crashed into the sidewalk, and it knocked the guardrail at the side.
On the sidewalk, Freya fell on the icy ground; her trolley was ruined, and her t–shirts were scattered everywhere.
Her ribs were broken, and her body flung and she rolled to the side.
The driver who caused the accident fled the scene; this was a very severe accident. A red Ferrari also slammed into the truck.
Luckily, the Ferrari cushioned the impact of the truck; if not, Freya would have suffered more than broken ribs.
The accidents happened in an instant; all the vehicles lost control one after another. One car was rushing toward Freya; another slammed into the pickup truck, and the Ferrari ended up hitting the tree trunk beside the road.
The driver’s head was bleeding, and he almost fainted.
The bystanders were calling the police; none of them dared touch or move Freya around. But some of them were brave, and they tried to get the driver out of the car in case it exploded.
But none of them expected the man to limp toward Freya after he regained consciousness.
“Freya! Freya!”
Jacob shouted crazily, and he kneeled at her side.
He tried to phone her before, but it disconnected halfway through their conversation. And he could not reach her phone anymore.
Jacob could not focus at all on the business discussion in Hidalgo.
He felt that something was wrong with himself; he was losing control once he met Freya again.
He pitied her at the beginning, and he wanted to make it up for her. But he was overdoing it now.
He used to play with her when they were both young: she was easy–going and fun to be with. He became obsessive after seeing how much she changed.
He quickly settled all the businesses in Hidalgo, and he left the rest of the follow–up to his assistant. He hurriedly booked an air ticket and flew back.
He went to the red shift to look for her, but he did not know she had resigned half a month ago.
He used his connections to get some information from Peyton about Freya’s rental house, and he saw her when he was driving past Loganberry Lane.
