The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 160

Lincoln knew there was no hiding the truth from Archie—not that it would have made a difference in this situation.

He sighed, shaking his head slightly. "The three hitmen surrendered, knowing they were outmatched. But Mr. Greene, upset that they had come to kill him, personally executed them."

Nolan looked at Archie and spoke calmly. "To put it simply, they should have been prepared to be killed if they came to kill me. It's as simple as that. Why? Do you think I was wrong, Mr. Baxter?"

Archie felt his scalp prickle. Was Nolan wrong?

Of course, he had gone too far. The hitmen had surrendered, and by killing them anyway, he had left no room for negotiation with Gregory. The Baxter family could have attempted a reconciliation by sacrificing some benefits if they were still alive. But now?

It was over—all of it. And to kill people after they'd surrendered was sure to enrage Gregory. Yet, could he blame Nolan? If he wanted to question Nolan's decisions, he should never have allied with him.

"No, Mr. Greene, you've misunderstood. I only thought there might have been other ways to resolve this. But since you acted as you did, I trust you had your reasons," said Archie.

"Don't worry. The Baxter family has decided; we won't hold you back or have any other agendas."

Now, there was no other path. It was all or nothing. He had no other options.
