Audrey said, "Though the wound on my back has healed, the ugly scars remain. In the past and even now, I can't shake the feeling of inferiority."
Kara nodded. She thought about how if she had an intimidating scar on her back, she would probably feel inferior as well.
"So, it was you who saved Nolan. There's no way it could have been Megan."
Audrey nodded and let out a deep sigh. "Megan's family situation is challenging, and Nolan doesn't seem like he's poor. So after I saved Nolan, it just so happened that she needed to cover her brother’s medical bills.
"Megan asked me to tell Nolan that she was the one who rescued him, hoping to receive some sort of thank-you payment from him and ease her financial burden.
"Initially, I didn't give it much thought. We are close friends and it's not easy for her to constantly accept my help. I thought maybe it would be great if someone gave her a thank-you fee. So, I went along with it.
"In the end, as you are aware, Nolan is very thankful to Megan. He has always believed that she was the one who saved his life. So, he is extremely nice to Megan. Even now, he probably still thinks that he owes Megan his life."
Audrey finished speaking and turned to Kara, her voice soft as she said, "But it was actually me who saved his life.
"Kara, do you think Nolan was mistaken, or am I the one who's at fault? What went wrong? Why can't you trust us? I know once I reveal this secret to you, you'll be able to form your own opinion and see the truth. So, please don't blame Nolan anymore, okay?"
Audrey did not say things like Megan was not a good person throughout the entire time. But now that all the details had been revealed, Kara should understand what to do.
Kara turned to Audrey and gave her a gentle hug. "Audrey, you're a good person. How could you possibly be wrong? And Megan isn't wrong either. But, Audrey, you're forgetting one thing—people change.
