Gregory looked at Shaun and asked him to get up. "Sure, I'll be your godfather, but you'll need to prove your worth. I could also forgive the Baxters, but do you understand what you need to do?"
Shaun looked at Gregory respectfully and replied, "Don't worry, Godfather. I know what to do. Nolan will die—just give me some time to deal with him personally."
Gregory nodded. "I don't know who Nolan is, nor does it concern me. But if offering the Baxter family itself becomes the gesture of your sincerity, then I'll accept you as my godson.
"I think it's time for a change in the Baxters' leadership. Are you willing to take the position as head of the family?"
Shaun grew excited and nodded earnestly. "Godfather, I've always dreamed of leading the Baxters, but it might take some time before it happens."
Gregory shook his head. "I don't want to wait. If you're going to be my grandson, you'll need to display the authority and resolve that comes with it. I hope you can take over as head of the Baxters soon.
"Your father is going senile. Is there really any point in him continuing to lead the Baxters? I think it would be better for him to step down sooner rather than later. That way, he can preserve his dignity. Otherwise, by the time his end comes, it'll be too late."
At this, Gregory looked Shaun dead in the eye. "You should understand, there are many ways to show your parents respect. Sometimes, even being misunderstood is a form of respect.
"Do you understand what I'm trying to say?" Gregory had made himself very clear. Shaun would be an idiot if he still didn't get it.
