The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 199

Archie was stunned. He hadn't expected a situation like this. Even though Fang was ruthless and a rising force in Eastern State's underworld, it was reckless to challenge a longstanding powerhouse like Gregory.

"You're sure about this, Lincoln? Did Fang really do all that? Is he just provoking them or has it escalated into an all-out war?"

Lincoln nodded. "He's not just provoking them. He's launched a full-scale assault and has taken over more than half of Greogry's territories in Eastland. But something is puzzling. So far, Gregory has yet to launch a strong counterattack.

"It's hard to make sense of it, but knowing Gregory, he won't just take a hit and do nothing. He's sure to retaliate. Still, no matter what, their war would benefit us. At the very least, Gregory won't have the time to come after us for now."

That was what Lincoln hoped. After all, Fang was the biggest threat, so they shouldn't be worth Gregory's attention for now.

Archie relaxed slightly. "If that's the case, we might indeed be safe for the time being. But there's always the risk that Gregory could deal with us first before he goes after Fang."

Lincoln frowned and went silent for a moment. It was indeed a possibility.

"Let's not dwell on this any longer. Whatever happens, it's not something we can control. All we need to do is focus on our own preparations.

"Besides strengthening defenses on our side, we must absolutely ensure Mr. Greene's safety. We can't afford to make any mistakes there.

"Also, make sure we have men monitoring any news out of Eastland at all times. If there's any sign Gregory is mobilizing his men in large numbers toward Bellington, we'll need to be ready for battle.
