The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 208

Of course, Nolan would feel weird about it. After all, this place used to belong to him and Megan, and there were a lot of happy memories here. The more memories they had to look back to, the weirder it would feel for him.

"Not really. After all, I wasn't the one at fault. It's late, and I'm sure that you didn't come all the way here to ask if I feel weird, right?" Nolan asked.

Jeanne nodded with a smile. "Of course not. I'm here to help you."

Nolan was stunned for a moment. It was surprising to hear her say that she wanted to help him.

He said, "You want to help me, huh? If you really want to do that, please tell Megan to stop pestering me. Let's just have a clean break."

She looked at him with a smile still on her face. "I'm afraid that might not be possible. It probably would've been possible at first, but you just had to bully her brother and mess with her mother."

It felt like Jeanne was gloating, but Nolan wasn't angry at all. Instead, he just said with a smile, "So, was it my fault? Was I wrong to be nice to her?"

Jeanne stayed silent for a while. Then, she sighed and looked at him.

She said, "You're a kind person. Your biggest mistake is that you're too ordinary. All you have is your gentleness and your loyalty, and it's your fault for being so useless!"

As she spoke, she sighed again. "We should just accept it. The world is just unfair like that!"
