Nolan smiled at Megan and said, "If there's nothing else you'd like to speak to us about, we'd like to go to our seats now. I'm afraid Audrey's not feeling well enough to remain standing for so long."
Shaun immediately piped up, "Mr. Greene, allow me to show you to your table. Ms. Turner, I'll talk to you later if time permits. We should keep in touch."
Nolan led Audrey toward the table in the corner while Shaun followed suit.
Megan's face was stormy as she cursed, "Damn it! How did Nolan get so chummy with Mr. Baxter? It'll be harder for us to corner him after this."
Jeanne pointed out, "We don't know that, Megan. I mean, maybe he and Mr. Baxter just met not too long ago. Besides, everyone in Bellington knows Mr. Baxter is chivalrous. He would never dismiss someone even if he didn't like them.
"Also, you saw how he looked at Audrey, right? He likes her, and I bet he's only nice to Nolan because of it. But if he finds out Audrey is hopelessly in love with Nolan, he may take it upon himself to get rid of Nolan.
"Everything will work out. We have nothing to worry about."
Megan nodded in agreement. "Here I was, thinking Nolan had finally outdone himself. But he's nothing more than a clown, and he's getting more pathetic with time. You saw how he was, too.
"In truth, if I didn't know Nolan so well, I might have believed that he got Audrey the Crystal of Devotion that's worth hundreds of millions of dollars. As if he could ever pull off something like that!
"He's nothing but a crude liar. You know what? One of these days, I ought to bring Audrey to Norwich Jewelers and show her the real thing.
"I'll have the shop assistant expose Nolan's true colors. I doubt Audrey could still speak of him with pride then!"
