Although disgusted by the leering gleam in Toby's eyes, Jeanne still couldn't help preening.
She was beautiful and boasted a flawless figure, so it was only normal for men to find her attractive. It wasn't as if she hadn't received a few knowing glances from young, handsome men. She even had a few wealthy, middle-aged men make a move on her before.
In the past, Jeanne might have settled for them. But after seeing what Megan had achieved, she refused to settle for less. She was not inferior to Megan, and she shouldn't be expected to live like she was.
Jeanne was determined to surpass Megan, and she believed she only needed one chance to prove herself.
"Toby, does Mr. Baxter know Nolan? He mentioned Nolan did him a favor, and they got closer from there. Is that true?"
Toby chuckled at this and answered, "Yes. That's pretty much how it went, which is why Mr. Baxter is so kind to him. Why do you ask, Jeanne? Do you know Nolan as well?"
Jeanne laughed. "Well, yes, sort of. But we aren't as close as we used to be. Anyway, am I right to presume Mr. Baxter is… grateful to Nolan?"
Upon hearing this, Toby fell silent as he considered the question. Granted, Shaun might have come off as grateful before, but Nolan had been so surly that he outright condescended to the former.
Shaun had harbored a small grudge against Nolan since then, and it was aggravated after he saw Audrey with Nolan. Others might not have realized it, but Toby had.
How was he supposed to explain all this to Jeanne?
