The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 74

At that moment, the entire room was in shock.

It wasn't just that Nolan had bid an incredible 60.1 million dollars, but also the way he talked and acted. Clearly, he was throwing money around just to make his lady happy.

When the crowd saw Audrey, they got it. She was so beautiful that it was easy to see why Nolan would do anything to make her smile.

People started to understand Nolan's actions a bit better.

But Megan couldn't handle the public display of affection.

"Fine. If you're going to keep bidding, I'm out. Congratulations," Megan said, trying to stay calm.

"What a lovely show of love. Spending 60.1 million dollars just to make your lady happy—how generous and rich of you! Congratulations," she added with a forced smile.

Then, Megan sat down, her face showing her frustration.

"Megan, don't worry," Jeanne said, trying to calm her. "Nolan probably can't come up with that much money. We'll just watch him embarrass himself, and you'll still get the painting."

She remembered how she and Nolan used to be close and how he used to do so much for her. He learned to cook, clean, and take care of everything for her. He even went to prison because of her. It was hard for her to forget these things.

No matter how much Megan tried to put Nolan down, she had to admit he had been really good to her, even to the point of sacrificing a lot.

Would she ever find such love again? Would she meet another man who treated her so well?

Seeing Nolan spend so much money on Audrey just to make her happy made Megan feel sad. The way Nolan was showing off his affection for someone else hit her hard.
