After Nolan spent 60.1 million dollars on the Verdant Serenity painting, the other auction items, though still valuable, didn't get close to that amount.
Since it was a charity auction, nothing else was going to reach such a high price. But the charity event was a big success, raising more than a hundred million dollars.
Archie took the stage with a big smile. "I want to thank everyone here. Your generosity has raised over a hundred million dollars. This money will help many elderly people and children who need it. On their behalf, thank you so much."
Archie bowed to the audience, and everyone clapped loudly.
Archie smiled and said, "As the head of the Baxter family, I promise that every dollar from the charity auction will go to where it's needed. We'll keep track of every penny and make all the details public. If anyone has questions, you can check the information yourself."
He then added, "Enjoy your food and drinks, and thank you all again for your generosity."
As Archie was about to leave the stage, Megan stood up. "Mr. Baxter, first of all, congratulations on Mr. Baxter Senior's recovery. I just want to ask—has all the auction money been collected?"
"I'm not doubting your financial resources," Megan continued. "It's just that some auction items went for a lot more than expected. I just wanted to make sure everything is in order for the charity. I hope you understand I'm not trying to cause trouble."
Her comments made many in the crowd frown. However, they soon realized she was directing her concerns at Nolan, not them. Everyone turned their attention to Nolan, curious to see his reaction.
Megan, however, was still fuming. Seeing Audrey happily showing off Verdant Serenity made her even more upset. She felt that if Nolan and Audrey weren't embarrassed, it was like she was being disrespected.
"Megan, stop. If you keep pushing, Mr. Baxter is going to get really upset," Jeanne said quietly, trying to calm her down.
But Megan ignored her. She turned to Archie and said, "Mr. Baxter, everyone knows how generous and honorable you are in Bellington. You wouldn't worry about small things like this. But we can't let a scam go unnoticed. It's disrespectful to you and to all of us. Please make sure all the money is collected."
Archie looked at her for a long moment, took a deep breath, and finally said, "Alright. If fairness is what you're worried about, we'll handle it as you've asked."
