The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 79

Shaun looked over Nolan carefully but didn't see anything valuable. Since Verdant Serenity was sold for over 60 million dollars, Nolan would need to offer something worth at least that much to cover it.

Shaun's gaze then landed on Audrey, and he noticed the Crystal of Devotion around her neck. He couldn't tell its exact value, but it was obviously worth a lot.

"Mr. Greene, are you thinking about auctioning off the jewelry Ms. Weiss is wearing?" Shaun asked.

Audrey quickly started to take off the jewelry, but Nolan stopped her.

"Mr. Baxter, I just need a direct answer—can it be done or not?" Nolan said.

"And I don't take back gifts. I won't be humiliated by doing that," he added.

Seeing that Nolan was annoyed, Shaun quickly said, "We can add another item to the auction. I'll get it sorted for my father right away."

Nolan nodded and said, "Just get me a blank sheet of paper and a brush with ink. If that's too much trouble, any paper and pen will do."

Shaun was stunned.

Megan laughed loudly as if she heard a joke. "Jeanne, did you see that? I told you Nolan was just pretending and didn't have the money. Now he's been caught, but he's still trying to act like he's loaded. I'm excited to see what he'll use to cover that six million dollars."

Jeanne looked at the Crystal of Devotion Audrey was wearing and whispered, "Could he be planning to use that fake Crystal of Devotion? It looks so real and fancy."

Megan shook her head. "No way. With all the experts here, someone would spot a fake. If he tries to pass off a fake as real, I'll make sure he gets embarrassed.

"And if he does try to auction that fake, imagine the scene—taking Audrey's jewelry and selling it. It'll be so embarrassing for him. It'll be hilarious!"
