However, most in the crowd looked at Nolan with puzzled gazes.
Audrey was equally perplexed, though beyond that, her heart swelled with admiration and joy. The fact that Nolan hadn't embarrassed himself was more than enough for her.
Even though Audrey also found it hard to believe that Nolan's art could sell for such an exorbitant price, it didn't matter since Nolan had been the one to pull it off. To her, Nolan was simply the best.
"Nolan, you nearly scared me to death! I really thought we were about to make a fool of ourselves.
"I was seriously considering going up on stage and returning Verdant Serenity," Audrey said as she patted her chest, still shaken.
Nolan laughed heartily at this. "There's nothing to worry about. Since I said you can trust me, you just need to trust me fully.
"Besides, if I promised to give you Verdant Serenity, I won't go back on my word. There's no way I'd let you return it."
Audrey responded with a gentle nod and a sweet smile, looking at Nolan with a gaze full of affection.
By this time, the gala was drawing to a close without any further surprises. When the event ended, many tried to exchange business cards with Nolan, but he refused all of them. His distant attitude left many of them dissatisfied.
Shaun approached Nolan at that moment with a smile. "Mr. Greene, your ride is ready. Please allow me to personally drive you and Ms. Weiss home."
Nolan waved his hand dismissively at Shaun's offer. "That won't be necessary. We'll walk. You can go back to your work."
With that, Nolan walked away with Audrey, linking arms with him. The two of them looked every bit like a sweet couple.
