Barbara quickly caught up with the police and Beatrice. She grabbed Beatrice’s hand and asked nervously. “Officer, why did you take my mother away? You have to give me a reason and let me know what’s going on.” 

Teddy had already cut ties with her and even taken a hit for Mona. She could not rely on him anymore and only had Beatrice. But she would have no one to keep her company if Beatrice went to prison. Barbara didn’t want to be lonely. 

The police officer met with Barbara’s teary eyes. He sighed and said, “Miss, please return to your home. We have evidence to prove that your mother is involved in the killing of Emily Clem. She needs to come with us for interrogation Afterward, he ignored Barbara and escorted Beatrice to the police car. 

Barbara’s hand was forced to separate from Beatrice’s. As it turned out, Beatrice was arrested for the reason she feared most. She couldn’t help but cry. 

When Jeremy decided to perish together with Mona, he said he would bear the responsibility of Emily’s death alone. It had nothing to do with Beatrice, Moreover, he was a police officer before becoming a businessman. He should be a man of his word. 

But why did he suddenly go back on his word? Barbara thought someone must have said something to Jeremy, and that person was undoubtedly Mona. Thinking of this, she hated Mon even more, especially for taking her mother away. Barbara clenched her fists tightly, and her veins bulged on the back of her hands. She gritted her teeth while calling Mona’s name. 

Beatrice’s arrest ad caused quite a commotion in the apartment complex. The surrounding neighbors ran out to watch and murmured, “I never thought that the well–dressed woman is evil. I didn’t expect her to kill a person before!” 

“Looks like the charges won’t be light. The police already handcuffed her.”

The people chatted as they slowly returned to their respective homes. No one wanted to comfort Barbara at all. After Beatrice was exposed to her crime, nobody cared for her or her daughter. They didn’t want to meddle too much in their 

business. 

Barbara lost track of time. She stood by the road alone. It was not until the police car left with Beatrice that she dragged her tired body home. 

The television was still playing in the living room. The hot coffee was still on the coffee table. It was still steaming and gave off Beatrice’s vibe. Barbara didn’t turn off the television or the lights. She just walked to her room. 

Barbara’s room was dark, and only the cold moonlight shone in through the window. After Barbara closed the door, she casually sat on the floor and leaned against the door, burying her face in the crook of her arm. In the dark, the hatred in Barbara’s heart intensified. 

Some were happy, while others were sad. After Mona found out that Beatrice had been arrested, she felt at ease. She took a shower early and nestled in Maxwell’s arms to watch a series on her tablet. Meanwhile, Maxwell’s eyes casually swept across the tablet in Mona’s hand. It was hard to tell if he was watching the series or the woman holding the tablet. But his eyes were filled with love. 

When she went to the office the next day, Mona drove to the office by herself. She wanted to keep her promise and make things clear with Jeremy. The car she had bought herself was almost dusty. Mona had only driven it a few times. 

Before Mona entered her car, she saw Maxwell walk in, looking troubled. She asked, “Do you need a ride? It seems you have

been busy lately.” Recently, Mona noticed Maxwell was getting up earlier. She assumed he was having a busy day or had a huge project coming up. 

“I’m not busy. I’m worried about you going alone. Let me send you off, Maxwell said. After Mona was nearly killed, he could not be at ease whenever Mona wanted to do something by herself. 

Seeing his concern, Mona smiled. “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
