When she saw how clueless he was, Aurora couldn’t help but chuckle. “Why don’t you eat first? Let’s see if you can taste the difference. You’ve been eating Cindy’s cooking for so long; I’m sure there’s a difference between both of our food.”
“What difference could there possibly be? They’re all dishes made with the same condiments.” Ian grabbed a fork and started eating.
Despite saying that, he could easily identify the distinctiveness between the dishes.
Ian silently frowned. Although it hadn’t even been that long since Cindy and him started cooking at home, he could effortlessly recognize the difference between Cindy and Aurora’s cooking.
Meanwhile, Cindy was already chatting with Aurora, inquiring about the current situation of the latter’s new residence.
Aurora then revealed what she bought during the day and her plans for decorating the house.
Back then, she used to explicitly exhibit her dislike against Cindy, but now, both of them were acting as though they were mother and daughter.
After briefly talking about what she planned to do with her new home, Aurora suddenly asked, “Where did you use to live, Cindy? I’m merely asking, so don’t look too much into it. Are your parents local? They’re welcome to visit whenever they have the time.”
The smile on Cindy’s face remained as she said, “Nope, my family is from a place far away from here.”
“I see.” Aurora was visibly disappointed. “I was thinking that I could have a chat with your mother. She must be a terrific woman to have raised such an outstanding daughter like you.”
Cindy almost burst into laughter.
Contrary to Aurora’s beliefs, Cindy’s mother wasn’t exactly amicable as she was notorious for being a fierce woman.
To be fair, a woman’s temper could be affected by the person she was married to.
In this case, it was Cindy’s father—Anthony Selby. Anthony was an honest man. Although an honest man had its pros, it was only inevitable for the same man to possess some flaws.
Unfortunately, though her father wasn’t one to cause troubles, he was too passive to carry the family.
Thus, her mother had always been the one keeping everything in the family together.
As time passed by, her mother eventually developed a number of dominant traits—such as a hot temper and a thundering timbre—none of which suggested that she was one to be messed with. Hence, that was how other people perceived her mother.
Since it wasn’t appropriate for her to share everything, she ambiguously blurted, “Yeah, I guess.”
Aurora then continued, “What about your father? Are you an only child?”
Cindy was stunned by the questions. She skipped the first inquiry and answered the second, “I’ve got a brother who’s still in school.”
Aurora, having not paid too much attention, nodded her head. “A daughter and a son. How wonderful!”
Without saying anything more, Cindy lowered her head and continued to eat her food.
At this moment, Ian glanced at her. Although there was still a smile on her face, it was visibly different than the one from before.
All this time, Ian had always assumed that Cindy’s family background wasn’t exactly glorious. Now that he had seen her expression, he could vaguely determine that his guess was right. Although it was possible that his predictions weren’t completely accurate, at least most of them were.
When the trio finished their dinner, they hopped on the couch for a quick break before going to Aurora’s rented place.
Although it wasn’t as huge as the one Ian had rented, it seemed rather spacious since Aurora would be the only one residing there.
Very soon, the new house was tidied up. Though it wasn’t fully furnished, every necessity was available.
For one, every cooking tool in the kitchen was newly acquired by Aurora earlier that day.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Cindy then suggested, “Perhaps we can have a house-warming party. It’s what my family would do whenever we moved to a new place. Me and Ian wouldn’t miss it!”
Ian glared at her, for he seemed to have lost sight of his position with Cindy.
Is she arranging things for me?
Aurora nodded hastily. “Sure thing! I shall pick a date next week, and we’ll have the party on the most suitable day.”
Then, Cindy went to check the contents in the fridge. Evidently, it was empty. She must have not managed to buy them yet.
She then stated, “We should start off by cooking some bacon. For us, it signifies a strong start, and a strong start tends to invite more strength and wealth into the homestead.”
