The sound of Cindy and Naomi’s laughter burst forth from the other end of the line.
Although Ian couldn’t see Cindy’s expression right now, he could imagine just how she was behaving.
Of course, he had never seen her drunk, but no longer was he curious about it now that he heard her voice on her phone. Turned out that she was a noisy drunk.
Suddenly, he thought of Sophia. Sophia wasn’t a particularly noisy drunk, or perhaps that was simply the case when she was with him.
All he remembered was that she was always well-behaved after she got drunk.
Regardless, she never drank much in front of him.
Just like that, Ian spaced out for a few seconds and by the time he came back to his senses, Cindy and Naomi had changed topics yet again.
Right now, they were talking about their itinerary for the next day and the day after that.
Cindy was saying that she would wait for Naomi to go to work before going to find Gary.
Additionally, the former was saying that she didn’t know how long her conversation with Gary would take but that if he helped her, she would likely have to treat him to lunch tomorrow.
Enviously, Naomi was saying, “I can’t believe you get to have lunch with him! I still remember when we watched his interview program together. He seemed so well-mannered and he gave me such a sense of security.”
“He gave me such a feeling as well,” Cindy agreed.
Ruefully, Ian quirked a corner of his lips. Do these girls even know what they are talking about, always going on about a sense of security?
The average woman could never hope to live up to the standards of someone like Gary Frye.
A man who was focused only on a woman’s looks was easy to conquer, as he would stay with her as long as she was beautiful.
However, Gary was the type of man who was truly hard to win over, for he would be focused not on a woman’s looks but her schooling, accomplishments, and inner temperament as well.
That was precisely what would steal a sense of security.
After all, he could gain a bad impression simply from a single flaw or misstep on her part.
Yet, it was clear Cindy and Naomi hadn’t thought of that, for they thoroughly hashed out the topic of Gary Frye along the car ride, complimenting him in all sorts of ways.
Unimpressed, Ian kept even more silent.
Finally, the car stopped outside the hotel and he could hear the sound of the car door opening.
Thus, he called out to Cindy a few times, but she seemed not to hear him at all.
Arms around each other’s shoulders, she and Naomi went merrily into the hotel and took the elevator up to their floor.
Seeing as they continued to chatter, he waited patiently for what seemed like an interminable length of time before Cindy finally said into the phone, “Ian.”
Good! Looks like she hasn’t forgotten me.
Humming his acknowledgment, he told her, “You must be back in your room, so you can hang up now. Go wash up and go to bed.”
“Alright,” Cindy agreed before continuing, “Sleep early. You’re filming tomorrow morning.” While he didn’t reply, she continued after a moment of thought, seemingly out of habit, “There will be an older woman on set tomorrow who likes to joke around. Don’t scowl like you always do if she jokes with you, or she’ll think you’re putting on airs.”
“Alright, I got it,” he answered.
For a moment, Cindy smacked her lips, as if trying to recall if she was leaving anything out.
Sure enough, two seconds later, she said, “Remember to eat breakfast.”
It made him smile.
Finally, she was finished, so she hung up first.
It was only then that Ian slowly put his phone down. Sighing, he got up from his bed to wash up.
After he was done, however, he still felt strangely awake. Nonetheless, he refrained from picking up his phone and only stood at the window, drawing the curtains to look outside.
The moonlight this evening was beautiful, shining brightly while the night sky twinkled with stars.
By his estimation, there would be good weather on the next day.
Suddenly, he remembered Cindy telling Naomi on the phone that she hoped there would be good weather tomorrow so that her meeting with Gary would go well.
He could tell how much hope she held for their meeting.
It was as if she thought that, as long as their meeting went smoothly, she would instantly be promoted and become a rich woman.
