The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1600

Chapter 1600 Cindy’s Sick

Cindy couldn’t fall asleep, but she didn’t want to use her phone either. She simply curled up in bed while staring out the window. After some time, she heard someone opening the door outside. She immediately shut her eyes.

“Did someone come home? Didn’t I lock the door when I left the house? Are you back, Keith?” Hazel’s nagging voice came from outside.

Cindy pretended as if she didn’t hear anything and didn’t respond to her mother at all. Hazel glanced around the house before she walked toward Cindy’s room. Once she opened the door to Cindy’s room, she froze. “Cindy? Why are you back? Are you on holiday?” Hazel sounded rather surprised to see her daughter home.

Cindy took her time to open her eyes. Without getting out of bed, she shifted her gaze toward Hazel before replying to her question. “Yeah. I’m on a break.”

Hazel glanced at the luggage placed beside the bed. “How long is your holiday? Why didn’t you tell me that you were coming back? I was shocked when I came back to find the door unlocked,” she uttered as she hurried into the room.

Cindy shut her eyes as she spoke in a miserable tone. “I didn’t see the need to inform you since I don’t need you to wait at home for me. You don’t have to bother about me; you can just continue on with your day. I’ll take a nap now.”

Hazel didn’t say anything more. She simply stared at her daughter for a while before she walked out and shut the door behind her. Cindy finally let out a soft sigh after it was once again silent. Although Cindy didn’t have the closest relationship with her mother, she knew that Hazel would want to spend time with her since she was back.

After tossing and turning in bed for nearly an hour, Cindy managed to fall asleep for an hour. She had felt wide-awake throughout her journey, but she felt terrible after her short nap. Her head was heavy, her nose was blocked, and her throat was hurting. She didn’t have any energy at all. I recognize these symptoms. I must have caught a cold.

Once she got out of bed, she left the room to look for cold medicine. However, she was distracted by the mouth-watering scent coming from the kitchen. After some hesitation, she walked to the kitchen to find her mother preparing a meal. She stood by the kitchen entrance and stared at Hazel for a while, but she eventually turned and went to the living hall as she had nothing to say to her mother.

The medicine chest was located in the same spot as it had been before. Cindy went through the various types of medicine to find that most of it was expired. She had no idea how Hazel survived on her own. Cindy threw out all the expired medicine, but she felt rather uneasy after that.

Ever since Anthony passed away, Hazel seemed to muddle through life without much enthusiasm. I guess it must be pretty tough for her to live on her own, Cindy thought.

Cindy changed her clothes and prepared to head out to purchase some medicine. Right when she stepped out of her room, Hazel heard her from the kitchen and rushed over to her. “What is it? Where are you going?”

Cindy’s head was throbbing. “I’m going out to get some medicine. I don’t feel too well.”

Hazel immediately set aside the kitchenware that she was holding. “Wait here. I’ll go get it.” Perhaps it was because they hadn’t met in a long while, but Cindy realized that her relationship with her mother seemed a lot better than before. Since Cindy wasn’t feeling well, she allowed her mother to get the medicine. She went to sit down in the living room while Hazel hurried out with her apron still tied around her waist.

Their house was right next to the village clinic, so it only took two minutes for Hazel to get the medicine. Meanwhile, Cindy leaned against the chair. She couldn’t stop herself from pulling her phone out from her pocket and scrolling through it.

She had left her phone on ever since she got home, but she hadn’t received any calls or messages so far. Even Aurora had stopped texting her. I guess this is a pretty good way for things to end. However, I still feel rather uneasy for some reason.

Cindy finally opened her Facebook to look at Ian’s latest post. However, she realized that he hadn’t posted anything for a while. After putting her phone down, Cindy realized how her own actions were rather comical. What can I do even if he did update his Facebook? What am I hoping to see? What do I want to know about him?

Hazel returned with a large bag of cold medicine. She didn’t know Cindy’s exact symptoms, so she bought all the medication that could potentially work for a cold.
