The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1706

Chapter 1706 Her Confidence in Him

Cindy didn’t even dare to lift her head to look at Ian. They were currently too close to each other and she was aware that his position was slightly inclined toward her, so if she lifted her head, they would definitely end up at a very awkwardly close distance.

She tried as best as she could to retreat and she had her back pressed firmly against the basin. “Why are you here? I’m almost done.”

As soon as she said that, she wriggled slightly and tried to slip away from the side. However, as soon as she tried to move, he moved at the same time and just about blocked her right in her path.

Suddenly, she couldn’t contain herself and she exclaimed loudly. Left without a choice, she lifted her head and stared at him. “What are you trying to do?! I want to get out of here.”

Meanwhile, Ian’s lips were curved into a smile and the beam on his face was unmistakable. He bent down further as he inched his face closer toward Cindy.

Just then, she tried even harder to duck. “Watch it! What are you trying to do?!”

However, Ian didn’t budge and he repeated the question from before. “What were you thinking about earlier? I stood behind you for ages but you didn’t even notice me.”

Cindy realized that she could no longer avoid his question, so she lifted her hand and held it against his chest. “I’m fine with you asking me a question, but why do you need to stand so close?”

Meanwhile, Ian guffawed at her words and she could even feel his chest rumbling. She tried extremely hard to contain herself but in the end, she couldn’t help blushing bright red in the face.

Ian’s gaze remained fixated upon Cindy as he purred, “Why does it seem like you’re quite afraid of me?”

Cindy’s eyes flitted all over the place quite nervously as she muttered, “That’s not true! I’m not afraid of you!”

Upon hearing that, Ian smirked as he inched even closer toward her. Originally, the distance between the duo was not considered to be a safe one but now, the distance was much lesser between them and Cindy could no longer bear it.

She instantly pushed him aside forcefully. “Why are you suddenly behaving so strangely recently? Just say what you want to say. Why do you need to get so close to me?”

He grunted an affirmative response before asking, “Why is your face flushed?”

Cindy’s heart thudded frantically but she had no way of running away under such circumstances, so she put on a calm front and replied chidingly, “You’re too close and I can’t breathe properly because there’s no air circulation.”

Ian stifled his laughter and replied, “Surprisingly, I don’t feel a thing. On the contrary, I feel like the air over here is fresher.”

In all honesty, Cindy couldn’t stand this side of him so turned around to walk off, but he reached out and pressed firmly on her shoulders.

His voice sounded stern as he said, “Don’t pay heed to the rumors on the Internet. I’ll deal with them. There’s no need to feel upset about those people. I’m used to the behavior of such people and if I was affected by them each time, I would probably have blown a blood vessel by now. In this world, some people aren’t fit to be called human, so we shouldn’t use our usual standards to judge them and neither should we treat them as we would normally treat others, alright?”

Cindy, on the other hand, pressed her lips together for quite some time before asking, “Don’t you ever feel angry?” Is he so chill that he doesn’t even feel the slightest bit of anger?!

Of course, that was pretty much impossible. It would take a saint to not feel anger upon being berated, but Ian was much more focused on figuring out how to execute revenge in the future and cause the other party’s life a living hell. As such, the anger he felt was usually replaced by such thoughts. And so, he replied, “I don’t feel angry because I know that they will end up living a worse off life than me, so the thought of that leaves me feeling happy.”

Meanwhile, Cindy could not quite get over it as easily as Ian because she couldn’t tell how bad the other party’s life would end up. All she could see at the moment was that the other party kept gloating in front of her.

As such, she mumbled, “Looks like you’re quite confident in yourself.”

Upon hearing that, Ian put some slight pressure as he grasped her shoulders. “Don’t you have confidence in me?”

Without even waiting for her reply, he continued, “I always thought that you had the utmost confidence in me.”

Although his words were not meant to sound accusatory, Cindy felt like he was blaming her. And so, she frowned before replying, “If I don’t have confidence in you, then I would have run away upon getting to know all those rumors from the Internet.”

Ian, however, maintained his silence and merely stared at her intently.

This guy has such a deep, penetrating gaze that no one would be able to resist him! In the end, Cindy hastily wriggled her shoulders and managed to struggle out of his grip. Then, she quickly walked off from the side. “You’re behaving quite oddly today. You’d better go and take some medication.”
