The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1725

Chapter 1725 Insinuations

Since Leah had no idea whether Ian was telling the truth, she only humored him with a smile. “I’m sure you might not be certain about this. Why don’t you go and ask him? You see, one has to fight for their own interests. He treated you quite well when you were at the hospital, so perhaps he’ll tell you if you ask him.”

Everything she said sounded like she was probing for a response, so he ignored her suggestion in favor of pointing out, “It’s his business as to why he’s looking for a lawyer. It has nothing to do with me, nor am I worried about it. If you really want to know, you can call him yourself.”

At that, she sighed. “I’m just asking you whether you might know. You haven’t returned home in quite a while, so there are many things you might not be aware of. Your father is currently being controlled by Sean and we have to remain by his side no matter what. Even if Sean wanted to do something in private, he would have to be discreet about it, but you’re different.”

As he was unable to suppress the disdain in his voice, he retorted, “If you truly have something to say, be direct about it instead of making all sorts of insinuations. I’m neither stupid nor a child. If you have the resources to try to sow discord, you might as well look for a way to get the old man to show you mercy.”

With that, Ian hung up. A single more word with her would feel like a waste of saliva.

His girlfriend was currently in the living room and here he was, having a conversation of no substance with a person of no significance. I’m definitely going insane!

In hindsight, he shouldn’t have answered the call at all.

So, Ian turned to leave the room. At this moment, Cindy and Aurora were engaged in an intense gaming session outside.

The moment he opened the door, he could hear Aurora loudly grumbling that her teammate was setting her up to fail by not helping out.

On the other hand, Cindy seemed quiet as she only sat to one side and played her own game.

While walking over to her, he sat beside her and rested his chin on her shoulder to watch how their game was going. “You both are doing terribly.”

“You don’t say!” Aurora bemoaned. “Look how terribly I’m doing. I’m practically being pinned to the ground and beaten up by the opposition.”

Ian chuckled before telling Cindy under his breath, “You’re doing terribly as well.”

Since she hadn’t moved from when he rested his chin on her shoulder, his breath tickled her earlobe and caused her to have goosebumps.

Yet, his mother failed to notice anything and she only probed about the earlier phone call. “Was that work? What did they say? Are they telling you what to do next?”

Ian’s chin was still on Cindy’s shoulder as he answered, “They didn’t say anything about that; they only told me not to take any drastic actions and to wait and see whether the other party has more news to leak to the press.”

Since Aurora was never a woman of patience, she smacked her lips upon hearing his response and complained, “Aren’t any of you anxious? I wish I could tear them to pieces right now.”

He chortled before he responded, “If you wish to achieve anything major in life, you have to be able to allow the smaller things to slide.”

A petulant Aurora pursed her lips before she thought of something else. “I wonder how Bryce is handling the whole smear campaign. While you are the one whose name is directly being smeared, the Morgan Family is somewhat implicated as well. If I were him, I’d beat the culprits up before I do anything else.”

While turning to lean against the back of the couch, Ian responded, “Beating someone up is the last resort. If he’s intelligent, he’ll find a way to make them beg for mercy without ever physically laying a hand on them.”

As of now, Leah hadn’t begged for mercy just yet, but that moment would come soon. At least she was panicking like mad now.

Otherwise, given her general disposition of looking down on Ian, she would never have called him or had such a cordial conversation with him.

From Sean’s previous conversation with him, Ian had no way of telling how exactly Leah had gone to cause trouble at the company.

However, based on her various insinuations about Sean in her phone conversation, her talks with him had most likely fallen apart.

At this moment, Cindy and Aurora finished their game and lost naturally.
