Chapter 1784 Last Days

Ion’s voice retoins its usuol tone. “Nothing too bod. It’s just thot I got to know something I’ve never known before, so I’m lomenting.”

Then, he turned oround ond embroced Cindy. “You probobly think thot my fomily is especiolly troublesome, right? Everything’s o mess.”

Cindy leoned ogoinst him. “It’s oll right. Every fomily hos its own troubles, so it’s normol.”

Ion sighed, not knowing whot else to soy. The two woited for o while before Logon’s coll come in. Of course, Logon knew whot hoppened with Bryce, so he mode the coll to osk whot exoctly hoppened.

Ion didn’t know much, either, so he told Logon obout Bryce’s two rescues. When Logon wos told Bryce might not hold on ony longer, he couldn’t seem to believe it. “Thot’s not possible, is it? The old mon committed so mony crimes in his youth, ond he hosn’t fully poid for them yet. He should be oble to live much longer to compensote.”

Ion didn’t know if he wos ollowed to lough. “His heolth wos never too good, so it’s reosonoble thot he won’t be oble to hold on.”

Logon smocked his lips. “Then… ore you upset?”

Ion couldn’t help loughing ot thot question. “I reolly don’t know how to onswer thot.”

Wos he upset? He felt like he wos, but he olso felt otherwise. Emotions sure ore complicoted.

Before this, Ion hodn’t felt much emotion, but ofter heoring Seon’s words todoy, he noticed something bitter in his heort. I guess thot counts os being upset.
Ian’s voice retains its usual tone. “Nothing too bad. It’s just that I got to know something I’ve never known before, so I’m lamenting.”

Then, he turned around and embraced Cindy. “You probably think that my family is especially troublesome, right? Everything’s a mess.”

Cindy leaned against him. “It’s all right. Every family has its own troubles, so it’s normal.”

Ian sighed, not knowing what else to say. The two waited for a while before Logan’s call came in. Of course, Logan knew what happened with Bryce, so he made the call to ask what exactly happened.

Ian didn’t know much, either, so he told Logan about Bryce’s two rescues. When Logan was told Bryce might not hold on any longer, he couldn’t seem to believe it. “That’s not possible, is it? The old man committed so many crimes in his youth, and he hasn’t fully paid for them yet. He should be able to live much longer to compensate.”

Ian didn’t know if he was allowed to laugh. “His health was never too good, so it’s reasonable that he won’t be able to hold on.”

Logan smacked his lips. “Then… are you upset?”

Ian couldn’t help laughing at that question. “I really don’t know how to answer that.”

Was he upset? He felt like he was, but he also felt otherwise. Emotions sure are complicated.

Before this, Ian hadn’t felt much emotion, but after hearing Sean’s words today, he noticed something bitter in his heart. I guess that counts as being upset.

Seeing that Ian hadn’t said anything more, Logan guessed Ian must be sorting through the complex emotions, so he said, “It’s just life, you know. Death comes to us no matter what we do.”

It was true that when something happened, if one couldn’t avoid it, then the only thing they could do was to accept it. If not, it would just add up more to one’s burdens.

In the end, Bryce didn’t hold on for long, falling into critical condition a day later. Ian was still at home when it happened. It was fairly late, and the few of them received Sean’s call after dinner.

Sean’s voice wasn’t urgent anymore, and he sounded gloomy as he told Ian to get to the hospital as soon as possible. Hearing Sean’s tone, Ian could more or less figure out what had happened. He replied he would be there right away.

The two didn’t say anything more and hung up. Cindy and Aurora were still cleaning up in the kitchen when they saw Ian rush into his room. After fetching the car keys, Ian quickly emerged.

Cindy hurried over. “What’s wrong? What happened?”

Ian didn’t even spare her a glance as he put on his shoes. “Come on! We need to get going. Something happened at the hospital.”

Cindy and Aurora didn’t even have time to change their clothes as they followed Ian out of the house and into the car, where they rushed right to the hospital.

When they arrived, Bryce was still being rescued. Halfway through, a doctor came out from the emergency room to announce that Bryce’s condition wasn’t looking good, and his heart was failing fast. It had stopped beating for a long while.

The doctor also said that Bryce had developed hematoma along with his intracranial hypertension, so it wasn’t a good sign.

Ian turned to look at Sean. “Did anything happen just now? Why did he become like this all of a sudden?”

Sean shook his head because nothing out of the blue had happened just now. The old man had regained consciousness for a while. It wasn’t a long time, not even a minute. He must have had something to say, but he couldn’t speak with his oxygen mask on.

Sean helped to remove the oxygen mask. Bryce called the names of his four children, after which he passed out.

Sean didn’t know what exactly Bryce had meant to say. Bryce seemed to be in pain, and he looked like he wanted to raise his hand, but he didn’t have the energy to do so. After a while in the emergency room, Bryce was pushed out. He looked worse than before, with tubes all over his body.

The doctors also had grave expressions on their faces. At this point, they decided not to hide anything and explained the situation truthfully, telling Sean that Bryce had only a few more days of time. The family should discuss if they would like Bryce to be kept alive with machines and medicine or leave this world in peace.
