The Returning EX (John and Sophia) novel Chapter 1980

Chapter 1980 Lunch

Since he treated her last time, she could pay it back this time. It was a reasonable thing to do. Cindy stayed in the company for a while so her lie wouldn't get busted. When she came out, she saw Gary's car parked not far away from the company, and she went up to it. "Hi, Mr. Frye."

Gary was in a tracksuit, unlike what he would usually wear. However, he still looked as gentle as ever. "Get in." He took her to another restaurant. It wasn't too upscale, but the interior and ambience were nice.

Instead of picking a room, they picked a table in the main hall and sat down.

Cindy was the one who made the orders. Since she was going to pay herself, she picked all the expensive dishes.

Gary knew what she was getting at. After the waiter was gone, he said, "You don't have to be so formal with me."

Cindy paused for a moment, then looked at him and smiled. "I'm not. I mean, I can't have you treating me all the time. I'd feel like I'm taking advantage of you." Cindy wasn't someone who liked to take advantage of anyone.

Gary nodded. "But the food you ordered is quite expensive. It makes me feel like I'm taking advantage of you."

Cindy laughed. "It's alright. I made a lot of money from the investment project you recommended anyway. It's only right to treat you to something good."

Gary said nothing.

While they were waiting for the food to be served, Cindy talked about the partnership, as she didn't know what else she could talk about. Gary said he had one project to recommend to her, but it was still in the preparation stage. He would tell her about it once the project was underway.

Cindy's current investment would have matured by the time the new project began, and there wouldn't be any gaps between them.

Cindy didn't know anything about that. She didn't know when she should pull out, so she depended on Gary for that. She nodded. "Alright then, Mr. Frye."

She then felt her phone vibrate, and she knew it was a video call. Cindy didn't need to guess who it was at all. She excused herself and took her phone out. I knew it. It's Ian. Since they would have some intimate talk, she couldn't say that right in front of Gary, and she stood up. "I'll have to take this call, Mr. Frye."

Gary nodded. "Of course."

She walked out of the restaurant with her phone in hand and took the video call.

Ian was looking exquisite. His makeup was still on, so she knew he just came off a shoot. There wasn't anyone else around, and Ian smiled at her. "I miss you."

Cindy sighed. "I miss you too."

Ian noticed that Cindy didn't seem to be at home, so he asked, "Are you outside?"

"Yes." Cindy pointed her phone camera at the restaurant's plaque for Ian to see. "I'm having lunch."

Ian quickly asked, "Alone?"

Cindy didn't want to lie to him, so she said honestly, "No. Mr. Frye is here. I'm having lunch with him."

She could see Ian frowning. She knew Ian didn't like Gary, so she quickly said, "It's my treat. I want to thank him for helping me. It's just a formality. I'm not lying, really." Last night, Ian told her honestly that Yulia went to see him, so she didn't want to hide anything from him.
