Xanxus was still upright, but he had to tense all his muscles to stay upright. He asked throatily, "How did you get your hands on the Northern Draken Tag?"
Kingsley answered calmly, "Henrich gave it to me."
"Hen—" The fact Kingsley was on first-name basis with Henrich almost made Xanxus wobble. Henrich Tanner was the undisputed king of Qustia's northern underworld.
Xanxus was just a small fry compared to that juggernaut, but Kingsley made it sound like Henrich was just an old man living next door. He felt his blood run cold, and he asked, "Y-You know the Tanners' family head?"
"Of course," Kingsley answered calmly. "The geezer's a shitty chess player, and he loves to lecture people."
Xanxus wanted to scream. "You called the Tanners' family head a geezer. A geezer."
Frederick huddled closer and whispered, "I think he’s friends with the Tanners. We should kill him while he's alone. Nobody's gonna know."
Xanxus' eyes glinted coldly. He's right. We're already enemies anyway. He won't let us go even if we grovel. There's nobody else around. This is our chance to get back at this little bastard. He'll be a problem for us if we don't kill him now because his backers are powerful. I'm no match for either the Gamblers Organization or the Tanners. Xanxus cracked his neck and said darkly, "You overestimate yourself, kid. You shouldn't have challenged me alone, even if you have the tag."
"What do you mean, Mr. Xanxus?" Kingsley arched his eyebrow. "Are you going to attack me, even when I have the tag?"
