Xanthe stormed out of the school gate, not expecting to see Enrique’s car parked right there waiting. He waved her over, so she got in, slamming the car door hard. 

Enrique half–jokingly coaxed Xanthe, “Who was the fool that dared to upset my dear daughter?” 

Still fuming, Xanthe huffed, “I ran into a total pervert who was even thinking of messing with Shakira!” 

Upon hearing this, Enrique immediately wiped the silly grin off his face, turning serious. He unbuckled his seatbelt, ready to step out. “Who’s the jerk? I’ll go teach him a lesson.” 

Xanthe inherited her fiery temper from Enrique, who was quick to act without hesitation. 

Xanthe pulled Enrique back. “Hey, I’ve already taken care of it. By the way, what made you decide to pick me up today? Aren’t you busy with the project?” 

Since the bidding meeting ended, Enrique, who unexpectedly won the bid, had been running back and forth between the company and the construction site, busier than ever. Xanthe hadn’t seen him at home much. 

Sitting back in his spot, Enrique chuckled, “I just wanted to see you.” 

Xanthe didn’t take the bait. She wasn’t born yesterday and didn’t fall for such sweet talk. 

Enrique admitted honestly, “It’s about the summit. In the afternoon, I went to meet Mr. Reynolds at Yonder Digital. Nheard he was asking his secretary to prepare a car to Crescentville University, so I mentioned you were there too, and I kindly offered him a ride.” 

It wasn’t until after the bidding ended that Enrique realized his win wasn’t by chance. Yonder Digital had offered their services for the Southville Project for free, saving the government a lot of money because of Sean’s connections, which was why they “lucked out” and got the plum job. 

After learning the truth, Enrique made a special trip to Yonder Digital to thank Sean. Sean was quite friendly in return, even pointing out a few major issues that weren’t obvious in the project. As a result, Enrique admired Sean even more and made sure to update him on the project’s progress whenever he had some free time. 

Xanthe craned her neck, looking out. “The boss of Yonder Digital? Did he go in? How come I didn’t see him?” 

Xanthe was curious about the great benefactor her dad always praised and wanted to meet this young and accomplished CEO of a big corporation. 

Enrique gave her a mysterious smile. “Someone like Mr. Reynolds always stands out, no matter where he is. He seems to have something important to handle and has disguised himself well so people can’t easily recognize him.” 

‘A disguise?‘ For some reason, Xanthe suddenly thought of the flashy gigolo who had stopped her earlier. 

She snapped her head around, a shiver running through her as she felt goosebumps prickling her skin. 

She thought, ‘Oh no, how can I ever associate our great benefactor with a freeloading gigolo? That would be such an insult to Mr. Reynolds. 

Seeing Xanthe’s odd expression, Enrique lovingly patted the back of her head. “Feeling down again? I know you love gossip. Next time, I’ll introduce you to Mr. Reynolds. Maybe we can bring Shakira too. They’re both benefactors to our family, you 

know.” 

Xanthe nodded. “Sure.”

Shakira returned to Eastlake Valley Estate after receiving a message from Levi.

Behind the small garden, there was a dedicated rehab room, which had been set up by Benji for Walter, although Walter had yet to go in there. 

But today, a group of specialists invited from the hospital was there to perform a thorough examination on Walter. 

When Shakira returned, the doctors were busy adjusting the testing equipment. 

When Walter saw her rushing in, his handsome face had a somewhat subtle look. 

He asked, “Did you skip class again?” 

Walter had seen Shakira’s schedule. She wasn’t supposed to be back until the afternoon. 

Shakira pouted and bluntly exposed the truth, “Are you trying to sneak in a check–up without me knowing?” 

Walter snorted dismissively and asked back, “Is it necessary?” 

Seeing his response, Shakira nodded. “Good, I thought someone wanted to secretly make me work without telling me the real test results.” 

Walter was speechless. 

A moment later, the doctors were ready to start. 

Walter came over and unbuttoned his shirt, pressing the device’s probe around his joints. 

The device was powered on, and the test began. 

With a prompt from the doctors, Walter began a series of alternating actions and conversations for the test. 

Shakira stood with the doctors, watching the device intently. 

Her heart unknowingly became tense. 

The line on the device remained steady, with no fluctuations. 

This showed that there was still no new progress with Walter’s legs. 

The faint sparkle in Shakira’s eyes faded instantly. 

Walter observed her expression and the cautious attitude of the doctors around him. It was clear he had already guessed the test results. 

His face showed no emotion as he interrupted the doctor’s next instruction and decided to end the test early. 

Shakira also stepped away from the monitor, calmly helping him remove the devices and buttoning up his shirt one by one. 

Walter lifted his gaze slightly, focusing on Shakira’s face. 

Seeing her act so calm in front of him for the first time, Walter darkened his eyes. 

With a deep, strong voice that resonated in Shakira’s heart, Walter said, “Shakira, you can’t just give up like that, can you?” 

Shakira’s eyelashes flickered gently. 

After a moment, she raised her eyes to meet Walter’s intense gaze.
