Chapter 138
Thinking that the scab on Christopher’s leg would fall off the following day, Cecilia nodded in agreement.
“All right. Let’s go to Yancey Corporation together tomorrow.”
After saying that, she had her bodyguard send the antique to Matthias‘ auction with a detailed introduction.
While waiting for dinner, she leaned against the couch and closed her eyes to rest.
The terrible images from three years ago surfaced in her mind.
The mission back then had been to deal with a terrorist attack.
A man had suffered an attack on his family of eight, leaving him as the sole survivor and leading him to become
world–weary.
Strapping bombs all over his body, he had planned to blow up a natural gas pipeline in the city center.
Security was tight at the natural gas pipeline, and ordinary homemade bombs were difficult to detonate.
Nonetheless, due to how crowded it was in the city center and to avoid unnecessary casualties, it was imperative to stop the man’s attack.
It was not a tough mission. They only had to snatch away the detonator or shoot the man.
Cecilia’s team had taken on the mission and devised a foolproof plan.
Alas, the information they had was inaccurate. The explosives
on the man were actually TNT bombs, and he was not the only human bomb.
The captain’s plan was also leaked, making the six members of the team sitting ducks.

No matter how skilled they were, they could not avoid bullets and bombs,
Soon, two in their team had been killed while the other four were injured.
With the exception of Cecilia, who had only sustained graze wounds from bullets, all the others had been attacked with bombs.
Only then did they realize the other party’s goal was to capture Cecilia.
The other party had come prepared, and they were no match for them.
In the face of brute strength, it was impossible to gain victory with wisdom.
If they fought recklessly, they would die in vain, and Cecilia would be taken away.
Hence, the other three decided to protect Cecilia with their lives.
Knowing she would never agree to that, they knocked her out and used all their strength to take her to an abandoned
warehouse.
Then, they destroyed the warehouse with a cleverly–positioned
blast.
The warehouse collapsed, and there was rubble everywhere. Everyone thought all four of them had died.
However, Cecilia survived thanks to the narrow space the trio had formed with their bodies.
When she woke up, it was dark, and a strong smell of blood filled her nostrils.
She had reached out blindly. Upon touching the three stiff bodies, she nearly had a breakdown.
The memory sent tears rolling down from the corners of

Cecilia’s eyes. She also clenched her hands that were resting limply on the couch so tightly that they clicked.
Christopher, who was following up on the investigation progress, heard the sound and turned to look at her.
A crystal–like tear slipped down to her chin and clung there. His heart broke at the sight.
Setting down his phone, he wiped away the tear with his index finger.
The tear was cold, yet it felt so scorching hot that his finger trembled slightly.
Without saying anything, he held her gently in his arms and dried the tears on her face by kissing them.
She did not resist.
Instead, she relaxed her balled fists and opened her wet eyes. Her long eyelashes brushed over his soft lips, tickling them. He looked at her tenderly. “Ceci, if you’re sad, just say it. I can help you share the burden.”
Moved by his words, she put an arm around his neck and kissed him.
His lips were thin, soft, and kissable.
An inexperienced kisser, she slowly traced his lips, her movements gentle and earnest.
Christopher’s heart beat violently, and he deepened the kiss.
A long while later, he released Cecilia reluctantly and asked in a hoarse voice, “Are you feeling better? If not, let’s kiss again.”
His husky voice in her ear stirred her heart.
A deep crimson crept over her delicate face.
When he lowered his head again and moved closer, she turned
away.

His lips touched her face, and he chuckled,
Letting her go, he straightened up and said, “Ceci, what happened three years ago is in the past. Don’t dwell on it. You have to move on.”
Cecilia was unsurprised by how observant Christopher was, for there were not many things that could make her cry.
She leaned against the back of the couch and pushed the stray strands of hair around her face behind her ear.
“I can only put it behind me completely by catching the mastermind.”
He held her hand and solemnly promised, “Ceci, give me some time. I’ll definitely help you catch him.”
She believed him. After all, Quilton was his territory.
“I believe you can do it.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than the butler motioned from not far away that dinner was ready.
In truth, it had been ready for a few minutes. It was just that the butler did not want to disturb them while the pair were kissing.
Christopher pulled Cecilia up.
“Let’s have dinner first. We’ll have the investigation results in two to three hours.”
It was already dark by the time they finished eating.
A thick, black veil seemed to cover the sky, and there was only a faint glow where the sun was setting.
Feeling a little too full, Cecilia got up to take a stroll in the back. garden.
Christopher accompanied her.
In order not to aggravate his leg injury, she deliberately slowed down her pace.

As she passed the pond, she stopped to gaze at the verdant green lotus leaves and took a deep breath.
