Chapter 720
Melanie stood up to take the call outside. There was a lot of background noise on Lee’s end, revealing that he was at a social gathering.
Lee would not normally call her unless there was something important. “Is there something you need from me?” she asked.
“Eugene has reviewed Burning Star Studio’s revised plan. You can come to LeapCo soon to arrange the funding since you’re in Jepton now.”
It was regarding the recent changes in plans when Xander suddenly altered the original schedule, which led to Eugene requesting the new plan for review.
“I’ll go,” Melanie responded.
“Come tomorrow,” Lee suggested after a moment’s contemplation. “It’ll be the end of the month in two days. We don’t want any delays in the financial department.”
“That’s true,” Melanie acknowledged.
Just as they were about to hang up, Lee added, “By the way, Eugene has an important business dinner with Mr. Walsh tonight. It’s a crucial partnership, so he won’t be available.”
“Is there anything else?” Melanie asked, not interested in hearing about Eugene’s work matters.
“No, that’s all,” Lee replied.
Melanie ended the call and turned to go inside, only to see Xander coming out with a coat in hand.
Xander raised a brow slightly. “I thought you’d stay outside for a while.”
Melanie gestured with her phone. “Lee called. He wants me to visit LeapCo’s finance department tomorrow.”
His eyes appeared especially warm under the light. He looked at Melanie without saying anything, then draped the coat over her shoulders. “It’s chilly tonight. Don’t catch a cold.”
Melanie nodded. “Thank you.”
Her voice was very low, and she did not look like she was in a good mood.
Xander began to say, “About finding a lawyer, I’ll ask my senior about it. Even if Luther is formidable, he won’t be able to turn the case around considering all the solid evidence you have. Otherwise, wouldn’t the law be unreliable?”
Melanie tightened her coat around herself, forcing a slight smile. “I’m just a bit worried.”
If they failed to bring down Viola completely this time, it would be much harder to do so in the future.
Melanie was not someone who believed in fate, but recent events often made her feel a sense of uncontrollable powerlessness.

She was also afraid that she would fail to bring the real culprit who caused her grandfather’s death to justice. She was afraid that her grandfather would blame her for being useless.
She was even more afraid that her grandfather would not be able to rest in peace.
Melanie took a deep breath. She clutched her coat and looked at the sturdy street lights outside. The dim light broke through the cold winter fog, bringing warmth.
