After replying to Ursula, Melvin arched an eyebrow slightly. "You've really been plotting this all along, haven't you?"
"Yep. You knew from the start, didn't you? I was smitten from the first glance," Jocelyn admitted without any pretense now.
Anyway, he was well aware of it.
Melvin chuckled, "Thank goodness for my good look."
"It's pretty much the only thing about you that could attract me," Jocelyn quipped, giving him a playful look.
Melvin frowned, "Are you sure about that?"
"What else do you think?" she teased, challenging him.
"Isn't there anything technical that I excel at?" Melvin asked with dead-serious curiosity.
"Technical?" Jocelyn was momentarily confused.
Melvin nodded.
"What kind of technical?" she inquired earnestly.
"In bed."
Jocelyn could've kicked herself for talking into that one.
She glared at him. "Can't you have a shred of decency?"
"Are you gonna deny it was good?" Melvin boasted shamelessly.
Jocelyn found herself at a loss for words.
But Melvin was relentless, "Come on, Jocelyn. Was it good or not? You have to be honest. If it was good, I'll keep up the good work. If not, then we'll improve together."
Jocelyn was beyond exasperated with him.
He talked about their intimacy blatantly as if it were some kind of high-stakes research project.
It was supposed to be a one-word answer, but Jocelyn found it quite embarrassing to articulate.
Yet the man was stubborn, clearly not going to let her out of the car until she commented.
"Good," Jocelyn said reluctantly, eager to end the conversation, "Now open the door."
"What's good?" Melvin pressed further, shamelessly leaning closer to her.
Jocelyn pushed him away, "Don't get too cocky."
"Looks like I still have some refining to do," Melvin finally stopped teasing her, not wanting to keep Daisy and Calvin waiting too long.
Once they got out of the car, Jocelyn rushed to her mom and dad.
Melvin, with his long legs, caught up easily and wrapped an arm around her waist to stop her from running.
He whispered teasingly in her ear, "Tonight's the first night for us being husband and wife, right? Let's eat dinner early and get back to work on those techniques."
Jocelyn's face turned beet red as she elbowed him in the chest, staring him sternly, "Watch it."
"Don't worry, your husband's back is just fine," Melvin laughed brazenly.
Jocelyn was at her wit's end.
She'd told him to watch his language, not anything else.
But his use of "your husband" sent a fleeting shiver through her.
Indeed, he was her husband now.
Legitimately so.
