True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) novel Chapter 1218

"Mr. Attwood, you are wrong. Only those who are related by blood are obliged to do so. From a moral standpoint, I am probably supposed to do so. However, I am not obliged to do so," Zachary demolished Benjamin's wishful thinking with one single sentence, leaving his eyes widened and at a loss for words.

"Then you are supposed to do so from a moral standpoint," Benjamin gritted his teeth and insisted "Regardless, you are my son-in-law and I am your father-in-law."

Zachary was silent, but he looked at Benjamin, anticipating the nonsense that Benjamin was going to say.

Meanwhile, Benjamin frowned and glanced at Zachary. He couldn't help but say, "Since the both of you have gotten your marriage certificate, it's official."

"So?" Zachary continued, "What are you trying to say?"

Benjamin was direct, "You guys got married, but you didn't even notify us. This is the fault on your part."

Zachary nodded and answered, "Yes, according to the customs, we are at fault."

A smirk appeared on Benjamin's face when he heard that. He felt very pleased and grinned, "No matter what, the groom should give the bride's family some betrothal gift."

Zachary nodded and agreed to him, "Indeed, according to the Southland customs, there are such requirements."

Benjamin then laughed, "Since that's the case, you owe me a check. It's not easy for me to raise Yvonne. You can also save yourself humiliation by giving us the betrothal gift as well. By doing this, you are also doing yourself a favor."

Hah. Asking for money directly using such a reason was shameless yet bold.

Zachary thought that Benjamin would continue to beat around the bush. He did not expect Benjamin to ask for money so directly.

Zachary could only sigh. This middle-aged man had the actual guts to ask a newly married couple to give him a check for his effort in raising Yvonne. The only problem was: when did he ever raise Yvonne?

If he was actually a good father to Yvonne, Zachary wouldn't hesitate to give him a check or even more.

However, he didn't treat Yvonne well.

Zachary was furious.

Benjamin only cared about money and using the people around him. This kind of man was not worth Zachary's money.

A betrothal gift?

In his dreams.

However, Zachary did not forget the fact that this was Yvonne's father.

He didn't want to embarrass Yvonne.

He nodded and asked, "I can give you the betrothal gift and some money. How much do you want?"

It was fine if money was all it took to shut him up.

"Five million dollars," Benjamin said through gritted teeth. Seeing that Zachary did not frown, he immediately changed the amount and asked for more, "Ten million dollars. Yes, give me ten million dollars."

Zachary still didn't frown and looked very calm.

"Zachary, no! Don't!" Yvonne finally couldn't hold it in any longer. She stormed into the room. Her eyes were slightly red, but she tried her best to conceal her anger.

Benjamin's eyes lit up as soon as he saw Yvonne. He thought of something and hurriedly said, "Yvonne, your Grandma said that you got married, so I came to see you." "Came to see me?" Yvonne sneered. She stared at Benjamin with reddened eyes and questioned him, "Then why are you asking for ten million from Zachary?"

"I-I'm your dad. I'm in trouble, and you guys are so well off. Can't you support me financially? Besides, I'm getting the betrothal gift money for you."

"No way!" Yvonne stared at Benjamin with a sneer and uttered slowly, "Who do you think Zachary is?"

"My son-in-law," Benjamin shrugged, still thinking that he was in the right, "I came here because I treat him as a family. I'm your father, so you can't bear to see me in trouble either, right?"

Yvonne had never seen such a shameless person before.

She was so exasperated that she was shaking in her feet.
