Leah was starting to feel suspicious about the entire situation. She frowned and asked in surprise, "How could there be such a coincidence? It's like they knew that you were asking me to write again."
"I agree." The editor said, "It seems like they knew I would act anxiously."
Leah thought seriously.
Beside her, Ernest's body went stiff even though he looked calm.
He focused on driving and resolutely did not look at Leah.
When Leah turned her head to look at him, Ernest realized that she was looking at him. He immediately turned to look at her. When they locked gazes, he curled his lips into a faint smile and smiled warmly at her.
Leah also smiled back at him.
Leah said to the editor, "In that case, since the substitute has chosen to resume writing, then it's none of my business anymore, right?" "How could it not be your business?" The editor immediately chided. "This book is yours originally. The profit and copyright are yours too. Whose business do you think this is?"
Leah's lips twitched. "It's my business."
"That's right."
"Did he really agree to continue writing?" Leah was a little worried that the substitute would stop writing again. What if he suddenly changed his mind?
"Yes," the editor said, "I don't think he will lie to me. He doesn't seem like a liar. Something important must've come up. He posted a notice on the noticeboard. He got a lot of likes for it."
"That's not a surprise," Leah said in a low voice, "He's good at writing. After he took over, he didn't ruin my book. He even managed to make it better!"
"Of course! He's really talented, isn't he? And he doesn't even want any rewards. He's like a real-life superhero." The editor's rage had dissipated just like that. At the moment, she sounded light and relaxed.
Leah agreed with her statement.
"By the way, Reaper, I'm telling you, you still need to pay close attention to this, alright? After all, this is your book. If there are any problems, you have to be responsible and modify them," The editor said, "You can't disregard it entirely."
Leah sighed helplessly. "After the contract expires, I'm definitely going to terminate my contract with you."
"Hey!" The editor smiled and said, "Let me tell you, wherever you publish your books, it's the same. You have to be equally responsible. I'm just following the rules. I've tried my best to help you out."
"That's true," Leah said, "You're not entirely bad."
After all, the editor was only doing her job.
She thought for a moment and said, "Alright, let me know if you need anything else."
"Okay, no problem," The editor said, "I'll let you know if we encounter any more problems with the substitute."
After hanging up, Leah let out a long sigh of relief.
"The substitute suddenly contacted my editor and told her that he's preparing the updates," Leah said to Ernest.
"That's great!" Ernest smiled immediately. "That means you'll be able to focus on your studies. You won't have to worry about the book anymore."
"You're right." Leah nodded and looked at Ernest. Suddenly, a hint of amusement appeared in her eyes. "Ernest, don't you think it's strange?"
"What's strange?" asked Ernest with a calm face.
Leah studied Ernest's eyes. She could not find anything particularly odd about his expression.
She could not help but suspect him.
For a moment, she almost suspected that Ernest was the one writing in her place without asking for any compensation. She thought that it was he who was given her all of the earnings.
