Lowell was dumbfounded.
He could not say that he was not affected by that. Gary just felt sorry for Celeste then, and he felt that he was guilty.
When a person felt guilty, they would not be able to do anything.
Perhaps only Gary himself could understand how much the situation affected him.
"You can't be so sure either. Even if they are together, it's impossible for this to not affect them," Janice said once more. "If that is the case, then why should I let him go? What's more, I have sacrificed so much for this. I have no reason to let him go."
"However, he doesn't love you. You won't be happy even if you do this." Lowell reminded her of that fact.
"Then, what is happiness?" Janice asked.
Lowell was stunned, he said, "For me, at least, it's to have a clear conscience."
"I don't feel guilty at all. I am working hard for my happiness, so there is no reason for me to feel guilty," Janice answered frankly, "If I don't be brave this time, how can I know whether I will have a chance of not?"
Lowell frowned. "You used such malicious methods to get what you want, how could you say that you don't feel guilty?"
"What did I do wrong? I wanted to get closer to him, and I just couldn't help it. That day, I accidentally found out that he was sad and was drinking, I wanted to ask him what was wrong, but then we got intimate," Janice said it word by word, "I could not help myself. Later, we had a child too. However, you say that I used malicious methods. Don't you think that he was the one who let himself indulge in his own drinking too much?"
Lowell was speechless after being questioned, and he could not respond for a long time.
"He was drunk and he hurt me, yet you said I used unscrupulous means to get what I want. What's more, even he said that too. I really feel very wronged." Janice smiled bitterly, and tears could be seen in her eyes. "How am I unscrupulous? I am the victim here, but I did not trouble him or ask him to bear any responsibility. I don't think I have done anything wrong by him at all."
"You did not say it like this back then," Lowell retorted.
"I did," Janice shouted in a low voice. "I have repeatedly said that something happened between us after we got drunk, but you two kept saying that I was despicable. I couldn't even explain myself."
The more Janice spoke, the more she felt wronged. Her eyes got redder and redder. Her delicate and pity look made people feel sorry for her.
However, Lowell snorted. He remained unmoved.
He had been fooled all too many times, and he did not want to be fooled anymore then.
"Lowell, you killed my child with your bare hands. You are a murderer, do you think that your conscience can be at peace?" Suddenly, Janice changed the topic, and she was questioning him.
Lowell's body trembled, he was startled by that question.
His heart would still twitch when that innocent child was mentioned.
No matter what, it was wrong for him to do that. So, he was willing to accept the punishment of law.
However, he did not expect Gary to make such a deal with Janice.
He knew that things would not be that simple. He did not expect Gary to make such a sacrifice for him.
After that, Lowell felt even more remorseful and ashamed.
When faced with Janice's aggressive questioning, Lowell only looked at her and said honestly, "I won't be able to find peace, but if I have the chance to do it again, I won't regret it."
"Yes." Janice smiled. She looked at Lowell and said word by word, "Yes, you are doing this by hook or by crook. You have already killed a life, but you can still justify your actions. I am just doing this for what I love. Why should I feel guilty?"
"You are spoiling other people's love and relationship for your own. You are narrow-minded and selfish."
"How do you know that I'm a narrow- minded person?" Janice's attitude remained the same as before as she asked, "If Gary doesn't have any feelings for me, how would he sleep with me? He was just suppressing himself."
"Hush!" Lowell took a deep breath. "Janice, did you call me here to tell me these?"
"Of course not." Janice shook her head. "I asked you to come so I can tell you that I don't owe you anything, Lowell, but now, you owe me a life. You took my child's life from me."
Lowell narrowed his eyes and looked at Janice, he could not refute.
It was true, he had indeed killed a life with his bare hands.
Janice's question made it difficult for him to say anything, he could only smile bitterly.
"You have had a crush on someone before too, right?" Janice looked into his eyes as she said it word by word. "If my guess is correct, you have had a crush on me before, right?"
She even knew that too!
She actually knew about everything, yet she was still using him!
Lowell smiled bitterly, a surge of emotions welled up in his gaze.
Whatever.
