Gary was startled. It felt like he brought trouble upon himself.
When he hesitated, Celeste continued to ask right away, "Or, do you intend to do something bad? Or perhaps, have you done something bad already, and need me to forgive you?"
Her question caused Gary's heart to skip a beat. He felt a shiver run down his spine, and a sense of guilt washed over him too.
It was said that a man should never do a wrong thing. As he was being questioned by Celeste then, he felt so guilty that he dared not look at her.
On the contrary, Celeste was very calm. She did not look away. She just continued to stare at Gary, awaiting his answer.
Upon being stared at, Gary could not help but to smile and say, "I am afraid that I may have really hurt you by making some careless mistakes, but I did not do it on purpose."
"I think that if you did not do it on purpose, it can still be forgiven," Celeste said, "Of course, it still depends on what the mistake is."
Just as Gary was about to heave a sigh of relief, he heard the latter part of Celeste's answer, and his heart jumped to his throat. He could not calm himself down for a long, long time.
That was because he felt that the mistake he had made was one that Celeste would never forgive.
It was difficult for him to even forgive himself, let alone Celeste.
Therefore, Gary still could not be at ease.
He looked at Celeste and said, "Yes, if I did something truly terrible, I won't be able to bring myself to ask for your forgiveness either."
After that, Gary lowered his eyes. He dared not look into Celeste's eyes for a long, long time.
Celeste knew what Gary was referring to.
One should not do unto others as one would have them done unto you. He understood that well.
"What's wrong with you?" Celeste had no choice but to continue to ask.
In truth, she really wanted Gary to directly tell her everything, as it might be much better than having her question for the truth herself.
However, Gary only smiled as he shook his head and said, "No, it's nothing. Sometimes, I just don't have any confidence in myself." "You don't look like a person who lacks confidence," Celeste told him directly, "To me, you have always been a confident person."
"That's the problem with someone like me. I would think too highly of myself at times and end up in big trouble. A lot of people have told me this." Gary laughed bitterly, as if he was mocking himself.
He had always been an arrogant person, and a lot of people told him that too, but he had never taken it seriously before.
As a result of that, he suffered a huge loss then. To him, it was extremely ironic.
Celeste stared at him gently and seriously. She knew exactly what he meant by that.
It seemed like Janice really thought it through. Her scheme was indeed powerful, and it really affected Gary's mood.
Celeste looked at the man who had always been confident, and how he had suddenly turned depressed and frustrated, she felt a touch of sadness in her heart.
She lowered her eyes and hid her expressions. Her voice was gentle as she said, "Even though I don't know what happened to make you think that way, I still want to tell you that if you wish to share the burden with me, you can always tell me your problems. I am not as weak as you think I am."
Gary nodded, he did not really understand what Celeste meant by that, he only smiled and said, "Okay, Celeste, I will let you know if I really need an _ _ IV ear.
"Okay, then I will get up first." Celeste realized that Gary had no intentions on going on with the topic, so she did not pursue the matter further. She decided to get up and wash herself up first.
After she got out of bed, Celeste went to the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror, she looked at her reflection in the mirror rather calmly.
He probably did not see the change in her.
Celeste could not help but to sigh.
Oh well, since he did not want to say it, she could only wait until he decided to say it himself.
Celeste briefly cleaned herself up and washed her face. She then came out of the bathroom and saw Gary standing in front of the window. He was watching the night scene outside quietly. He seemed really sad, and she didn't know what was on his mind.
He had a tall and strong build, and when she looked at him, it felt like he was a character in a painting. He stood on the same spot and did not move at all.
A glint of entangled emotions flashed across Celeste's eyes, it made her feel very upset.
Celeste knew very well how conflicted Gary must be feeling right then.
She was also well aware of how sad Gary was.
Some things were not as simple as they thought.
She pretended to be calm and walked over to him. "What are you looking at? You are as still as a statue when you stare at the darkness outside the window. What's there to see? Or, is there something you want to tell me, but you can't, so you are keeping it in your heart?"
Gary immediately looked towards Celeste and smiled as he came back to his senses. "No, I am fine."
"Oh." Celeste looked at him, he was unwilling to say anything, so she did not force him. "Well, are you hungry? Shall we go down and eat?"
As she spoke, she walked over and wrapped her arms around his. She was extremely proactive.
Gary was stunned. It seemed like he did not expect Celeste to take the initiative to hold him like that. She was not the type who would usually initiate that kind of intimacy.
"Dinner starts at seven." Gary looked at his watch and said, "There is still ten minutes left. Why don't we go down later? Besides, if we go down now, we'd still have to wait. We might even be teased by Maria. She probably knows what we did and
she had been teasing me."
Celeste was stunned and her face turned red right away. She lowered her eyes and said, "Maria likes to joke, and her jokes are a little explicit."
"She has changed a lot. Back then, she was quite an annoying girl. Now, she has turned out to be extremely adorable, especially after she got into a relationship with Liam. She is already a lovable girl," Gary said with a myriad of emotions, "When she was young, she was quite unreasonable, and she gave Ernest and I a lot of headaches. Every time we gather, we would try our best to avoid her."
