Heinz's heart felt a stabbing pain. He looked at Grace; he could feel she was resisting him and fear rose in his heart.
He said hurriedly, "Grace."
She shook her head. Her gaze was calm and her face was gentle, but she remained silent. She seemed so disheveled with the mess splattered across her face.
She didn't wipe any of it away, which made Heinz feel further distressed.
His handsome face was riddled with worry. He knew that he would hurt her. Although he knew that she might leave him, he still couldn't help but wish for her forgiveness.
"I'm sorry, I keep making so many mistakes," Heinz said softly, filled with helplessness and sorrow. "I'm really sorry."
Apart from apologizing, he didn't know what else to say to Grace. He still hadn't been able to uncover who the culprit was.
He had been rather inefficient regarding the matter.
After thinking for a while, she did not answer and turned her face away. Her forehead was a little red and slightly swollen.
Heinz's eyes narrowed. He stretched out his hand, wanting to caress her forehead.
However, Grace backed away subconsciously at once.
His heart missed a beat and his hand froze in mid-air.
There was dead silence in the room and only the sound of their breathing could be heard.
Heinz stared fixedly at Grace, feeling a mix of emotions. In the end, he could only say bitterly, "I haven't found out who did it. I'm sure it has something to do with Jodie. I won't let her go."
Grace still didn't know what to say.
At this moment, no matter what she said, it would all be in vain.
She shook her head. "I don't know who's doing this to me. It's the first time that I've felt so afraid. I can ignore what people say, but I can't avoid this sort of malicious attack. I've even dragged Tyler, Zachary and Hermione into this."
"I am really ashamed. I know that it is a mistake to love you now and I should pay the price, but I also feel that even if I stopped loving you, people will continue to hurt me regardless."
"I am afraid that the attacks won't stop and it may even affect the children. I am scared."
Grace lowered her head and said softly, "So, Heinz, just stay away from me. I don't want to see you anymore. I'm afraid that one day it'll no longer be eggs they're throwing at me, but stones instead."
"Grace!" Heinz said, "That is all the more reason why I should be with you right now, to protect you. Follow me to the villa in the mountains, or to Ernest's place. We will tighten security and get through this together."
"I don't dare to be with the children," Grace replied sadly, "I really want to protect them, but I'm more afraid that I will bring misfortune upon them."
Heinz pursed his lips and impulsively stepped forward to give her a hug again.
"Ah!" Subconsciously, Grace reached out to push him away.
But Heinz held her tightly and firmly.
Wrapping her in his strong embrace, he said, "I won't allow you to think like this. Although I haven't found out who the culprit is, I will take revenge. No matter who hurt you like this, I won't allow it. I will make sure that they suffer twice as much. Jodie will pay the price too."
Grace repeated in surprise, "Jodie?"
"I think it must have something to do with her. We still need to collect evidence and we still can't prove who was the mastermind behind the scenes yet, but I'll be sure to find out."
"When?" Grace shouted. "What if we never find that person? Then will I have to live like this for the rest of my life? Hiding and avoiding people?"
As she shouted, Grace suddenly felt much better in her heart.
She knew that it was useless to get angry with Heinz.
She shouldn't be angry with him. It was unfair.
Grace's eyes suddenly turned red and she stared blankly at Heinz, not knowing what to say.
