The profile had listed "Gemma Zelnik" as Zoey's mother.
An hour later, the investigation Yvette had paid for was completed. Since Zoey was a public figure, information about her was easily accessible. However, Yvette was more concerned about the relationship between Zoey and Yara.
"Five years ago, Yara went abroad, met Lawrence, and married him. She is now Zoey's stepmother."
Stepmother...
Yvette recalled how Yara had repeatedly referred to Zoey as "my daughter" during the phone call.
She struggled to believe that Yara was merely a stepmother. She knew very well what kind of person Yara was—she was so cruel even to her own daughter, let alone to a stepdaughter.
"What about her biological mother?" Yvette asked.
"Are you asking about Gemma Zelnik, boss? Lawrence married into her family. After joining the Zelnik family, he didn't get along well with Gemma, and he divorced her five years ago.
"Gemma had only one daughter. She treated Zoey well and gave her everything she wanted."
Since there was no additional information, Yvette didn't ask further either. The image of Zoey dancing, bearing a resemblance to Yara, sparked a thought in her mind.
Yvette couldn't bring herself to continue that line of thought.
After hanging up the phone, she leaned back in her chair to rest.
…
On the other side, Jeremiah received the news that the collaboration was off. He didn't ask for more details.
Shannon also received the news. She was somewhat surprised. "Who could possibly offer more than us?"
Mandy shook her head. "When you mentioned wanting to collaborate with Ms. Cameron, I gave the other entertainment companies a heads-up. No one would dare to compete with us."
"Check again. Let's see who has such audacity."
"Yes, Madam Shannon."
…
Back in Sangine County, Yvette visited Noah before heading home. Since Xavier hadn't returned yet, she spent some time talking with Viola.
