Noah smiled, thinking to himself that he would teach Linda a lesson since she wanted to be his stepmother so badly.
Linda clearly stiffened. She was confused by the sudden shift in his demeanor when he'd seemed fine earlier.
It was only then that Mark found out about her intentions. He eyed her coldly before taking Noah back.
He figured that he should reorganize the CEO's secretariat department in two days' time.
…
The driver drove them back home during the night. As Noah sat with Xavier in the car, he asked tentatively, "There are so many pretty ladies in your company, Mr. Xavier. Why do you like my mom then?"
Upon hearing the question, Xavier did not hesitate in answering, "I don't know."
If he'd known why he liked Yvette, he would have known how to handle his feelings and wouldn't let himself be so troubled.
Noah choked. Before he could say something, the driver said, "There's a car trailing after us, Mr. Lane."
Ever since IM Enterprise had made a name for itself, many companies had been trying to find out who was behind it.
Xavier was already used to it. He said, "Avoid them and switch to another route."
"Alright." The driver immediately headed for another route.
But it was clear that the car trailing them was up to more than just investigation today. It suddenly accelerated, shattering the rear window of Xavier's car with a loud crash.
Xavier instinctively pulled Noah into his arms, shielding him from a sharp dagger that came thrusting at them.
The wind was howling in his ears, and Noah remained frozen as he hid in Xavier's arms, terrified.
The driver, however, was unfazed by the situation. The car behind was soon intercepted by Xavier's hidden convoy.
Everything returned to its original calmness after that. There was a shallow cut on Xavier's cheek from the earlier dagger attack.
The driver asked, "Are you alright, Mr. Lane?"
