Uncle's Love: My Sweet Little Wife novel Chapter 84

James stood quietly behind Kara, finding her too thin. Thinking of her reaction, he was sure that she had heard what Eli said.

He could only pretend that he didn't realize it. He put his hands in his pockets and leaned against the wall casually, staring at her.

"Don't mind me. Just continue your work."

...

Kara turned back as he told and avoided eye contact with him. However, she could not calm herself down knowing he was staring at her.

As James supposed, she did hear his conversation with Eli. 'He is right,' she thought, 'I'm neither in a good health nor outgoing. And I'm no longer a lady from the Quain family.'

'An orphan like me is indeed like a fragile plant that needs a lot of care to grow.'

'Without Uncle James' help and support, I'll be nothing but a vagrant. I might even not be able to survive.'

Unable to refute Eli's words, she felt upset and aggrieved.

Seeing her drawing become messy, James frowned. "Kara, focus. Whatever you do, always keep your eyes on your goal! Never let other things disturb you. I hope you can keep this in mind."

"I will."

Hearing this, Kara cheered herself up, 'Uncle James is right. The most important thing for me now is the college entrance examination. I can't be disturbed by other things.'

She quickly calmed down and kept on painting.

James stared at the back of her head and thought of Eli's words.

'Indeed, Kara is not in good health and did not have much courage. Sometimes she would be frightened if I raised my voice.'

'She is too kind to reject other people's requests. But she has a sincere and pure heart.'

'She is not as fragile as Eli said.'

'She is just too humble to show her talent.'

If Eli was not his cousin, he would have kicked him down the stairs and made him disappear forever!

James gradually calmed down as he watched her painting.

'If I can protect her for now, I will protect her forever as long as she needs me.'

...

When Kara arrived at Larry's studio, there were not many students. The students who came early were helping clean the studio, and she quickly joined in.

Her hair fell on her shoulders and her fringe was pinned aside with a clip decorated with a lemon icon.

She was in light-blue sportswear and wore a pair of light-colored sports shoes. A male classmate of hers saw her appearance and thought her to be as young as a junior high school student.

"Hello, I am Donald Hack. I'm your classmate."

Although Kara swept the floor with other students, she was a little shy and reserved.

Therefore, she was glad that he was willing to talk to her.

She said, "Good morning, Mr. Hack, nice to meet you. I am Kara."

Donald was amused to see her bow and immediately stopped her.

"Don't be so nervous. You can call me Donald. By the way, I heard that you are in twelfth grade and preparing to take the college entrance exam?"

Donald saw her polite behavior and knew that she had been well-educated.

He heard other students gossiped about her that she could become Master Larry's disciple because she had a sugar-daddy. Now that he met her in person, he found those rumors ridiculous.

"Yes, you're right."

Successfully making an acquaintance with a classmate made Kara very happy. The smile on her face was as bright as the rising sun.

"Thinking back on my high school years, I could only recall life as in hell. Well, but it was a really long time ago." Donald sighed.

"A long time ago?" Kara asked.

Donald had a babyface, and when he smiled, there was a small dimple at the corner of his mouth.

With his light-yellow shirts, beige trousers, and a pair of fashionable sports shoes he wore, she thought he was only a few years older than her.

"He is a doctoral student of School of Arts and is in his late twenties."

Another male classmate beside him laughed loudly and teased him. "Donald, won't you ever be shameful to pretend to be young?"
