Chapter 161 A Thing of the Past
Aylin fondly recalled Nina sitting by the window, her head lowered as she worked on her embroidery. Her slender neck slightly bent, exuding an unparalleled grace and beauty.
Her voice was filled with emotion as she said, “As long as I can fulfill my mom’s wishes and do what she loves, I’m not afraid of anything!”
Daniel also thought of that stunningly talented person, and as he looked at Aylin, who bore a striking resemblance to Nina, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of being in a different world.
Aylin could also be considered someone he watched grow up. From her clever and adorable childhood to her current astute and capable self, able to hold her own, it’s hard not to exclaim how
time flies.
He reassured her, “Good, since the young lady has such courage and ambition, I will definitely do my best to assist you!”
Daniel’s smile carried a hint of deep emotion. After a moment, he said, “By the way, Ms. Koch, I wasn’t able to make progress on the matter you asked me to investigate earlier.”
Aylin raised an eyebrow and asked, “What do you mean?”
Daniel frowned, reporting his findings from the investigation. “Hanson’s driver seems to have vanished into thin air. I think someone deliberately erased his tracks, and I can’t find his
whereabouts.
As for Hanson, he’s not meddling with the company anymore. I heard he’s been short on cash lately and is thinking about making a living by dealing in antiques.”
“Dealing with antiques?”
Aylin sneered, “He’s neither a history major nor skilled in antique appraisal. With his abilities, he’s bound to lose money sooner or later.”
There was no denying the truth, so the two of them discussed further on how to develop the embroidery project. Finally, Aylin made the decision, “Daniel, you have a wide network and are familiar with New York. I’ll leave the market research and survey tasks to you.”
Daniel patted his chest confidently, “Don’t worry, Ms. Koch, I used to do this kind of work!”
Before leaving, Daniel reminded Aylin a few more times to eat well and not to overwork herself. After saying this, he gently closed the door and left with a sense of relief.
After Daniel left, Aylin was the only one remaining in the spacious CEO’s office. Having just experienced a brainstorming session, she leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes to rest.
A sound suddenly rang out.
The sound of a push notification from the mobile phone interrupted this brief moment of
relaxation.
Aylin picked up her phone and saw the financial news.
It wrote: [The CEO of the Delacruz Group generously donated three Hope Primary Schools to impoverished counties, stating that children are the hope of the nation.]
Aylin raised her eyebrows.
She casually scrolled through the comments, noticing that the Delacruz Group’s reputation, which had taken a hit due to the recent grand wedding, had already made a swift turnaround.
In the comments section, people are praising Gavyn for his kindness, saying that he is a conscientious entrepreneur who knows how to give back to society. The charitable deeds done by the Delacruz family in the past have also been brought to light and are highly commended.
Almost everyone sympathizes with Gavyn.
One wrote: [Mr. Delacruz has practically no scandals, and yet such a good man’s deep affection is wasted on a promiscuous woman. I feel like killing someone!]
Another commented: (Exactly, what is this woman thinking? It’s so hard to find such a good man these days, even with a lantern! Is she brain-damaged or something?]
A person wrote: [What a great man he is! It’s just that he was blind to see, and ended up with the wrong person!]
Another wrote: [Ah, deep affection has always been taken for granted, it seems even the wealthy families are no exception…]
The woman sympathized with him, while the man felt indignant on his behalf. All the blame was directed at Laila, and the insults towards her were overwhelming!
And the stock price of the Delacruz Group visibly increased.
Gavyn was portrayed as a deeply devoted and heartbroken good man, which made Aylin couldn’t help but scoff in her heart.
But this was also within her expectations.
The Delacruz family has always excelled in crisis management, which can be attributed to the system that Gavyn single-handedly cultivated. External PR firms simply can’t compare.
When it comes to controlling public opinion and engaging in business warfare, Gavyn has always
been a master at it.
Steve had several sons over the years, but none of them were particularly useful. Some were spendthrifts, others were lazy, and not a single one could be entrusted with any significant
responsibility. Even Felix was just of average ability.
The only one with any prospects was Gavyn’s aunt, the sole daughter of the Delacruz family. However, she had no interest in business and instead devoted herself to her studies, ultimately pursuing a career in academic field, staying away from the stench of money.
In the end, Steve’s gaze finally settled on Gavyn.
She still remembers when Steve told her about this, his eyes even brimming with tears. “This kid, he’s a gift from heaven, sent to save our Delacruz family.”
There’s no denying it; it’s not that Steve favors Gavyn, but rather Gavyn’s abilities are so formidable that they simply cannot be ignored.
Gavyn’s cousins from this generation were all raised by their parents in a life of luxury and comfort, unfamiliar with the ways of the world. All they knew was how to indulge in extravagance and squander their wealth.
Only Gavyn, since his youth, has displayed an extraordinary sense of rationality and calmness. He never indulged in the pleasures of nightlife or alcohol, nor was he immersed in entertainment. Instead, he spent his days reading, exercising, and after meals, he would follow Felix to the company to learn how to manage affairs.
Steve’s words were spot on. In the end, it was indeed Gavyn who, at a young age, shouldered the heavy burden of the entire Delacruz family.
Once upon a time, she was also infatuated with him because of these things.
However, Aylin’s feelings are now only for Steve. No matter how outstanding and charming Gavyn may be, he is just a thing of the past for her.
Aylin sat up straight and continued working.
Just as I opened the folder, my phone rang again. This time, it wasn’t a notification alert, but rather
an urgent ringtone.

The readers' comments on the novel: Unveiling The Genius Behind The Divorce
Terrible ending, so she has helped out a model and an actor get started. Her “brothers” are not protecting her, her ex loves her dearly and she loves him but has never bothered to tell him what happened to her with amnesia to clear the air on their marriage that could be fixed the second time around. Readers want the romance and love of the story, not ridiculous violence, manipulation and deception. Make it right, finish the story with a grand wedding and a child of their own....
Come-on, her not knowing anything about herself and he knowing nothing about her, any wealthy man would think that way. Aylin is being totally unfair to Gavyn as it was his mother and sister who were deliberately lying to him and treating her like crap. Make it right!...
Wow, enough… why do you make the heroine out to be a hooker and allow the bixens to look like upstanding women? Shameless. Get the two who actually love each other back together and stop the nonsense. Since when does a mother arrange for her son’s wife, despicable. And rather sickening, obviously Gavyn’s mother is an idiot!...
Relationships based on lies… despicable women.. find the newsreel where Alton was actually the one who saved Gavyn and send it to him. Leila needs to go...
It's been almost a year since the last chapter. Is this story going to be completed?...
