What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 190

Chapter 190 Let Her Die If That’s Her Wish

“What’s going on?” asked Conrad intuitively. He regretted it instantly.

His question made him seem dense and incompetent.

Lewis asked, “Conrad, what have you learned all these years working under me? Bootlicking?”

Conrad paused before answering, “Sorry, sir. It’s my fault. I’m too slow and didn’t

sooner.”

“I’m hanging up.” Lewis ceased speaking. He kept his phone and leaned against the railing lazily, smoking as he contemplated.

Josephine looked up and saw him smoking while leaning against the railing.

He looked troubled.

Josephine’s phone rang. She picked it up.

It was a message from an unknown number saying, “Mary Jinkins is dead.”

It was a short sentence, but it struck Josephine like lightning. She froze on the spot, forgetting

to respond.

A surge of dread overwhelmed her. She felt her blood rushing in the same direction, leaving her hands and feet numb, and she felt like they didn’t belong to her anymore.

Josephine stared at the four words. Her mind was blank. Her first thought was the message

was from a scammer.

This message was a trick from a scammer.

It must be Seth. Seth loved nothing more than deceiving her.

Nevertheless, she couldn’t stop her tears from falling.

She turned and looked at the man standing above her. With her blurred vision, she saw the man lowering his eyes to look at her.

Their gazes met and stirred up an array of emotions between them.

She wanted proof, and he responded.

Josephine’s phone slipped from her hand and fell onto the floor with a dull thud.

After what seemed forever, Josephine rose from the sofa and slowly ascended the stairs. Every step seerned heavy to her.

She approached Lewis and looked into his indifferent eyes. Many times, she had thought that nothing in this world could possibly interest him.

Josephine’s heart sank further.

She raised her hands but didn’t know what to sign. She was more so afraid of the words he might say.

Hence, her hands froze mid-air. Both said nothing for a while.

After a long while, Josephine held back her tears and mustered the courage to sign, “I want to go to the hospital.”

He wore no expression, as though he missed her sign language.

Josephine gestured again, “I want to visit Mrs. Jinkins.”

Lewis turned and descended the stairs, refusing any communication with her. “You’re not allowed to.”

Josephine’s tears started falling again. She couldn’t help but recall the message, and anger brewed within.

She stopped communicating with Lewis and returned to her bedroom in a fury.

She changed her clothes, brought her bag, and was ready to leave.

She opened the door to find Lewis standing there. He was leaning against the doorframe, blocking her way. “Where are you going?”

Josephine gestured, “The hospital.”

His gaze grew a few degrees cooler as he grabbed her chin. He said in a low voice, “I said you’re not allowed to-did you hear me?”

His eyes were blazing with fury. Josephine looked at them, and dread filled her heart.

She raised her hand and gestured, “Why?”

“There’s no reason. You are to do as I say. Now, stay at home!”

Then, he aggressively released Josephine’s chin and said, “Don’t compel me.”

Josephine staggered a few steps back. Before she could regain her balance, the door abruptly shut, and she was locked in.

She twisted the doorknob, but the door wouldn’t open, no matter how.

He had locked her in again.

Josephine clutched her bag and leaned against the door, slowly sliding to the floor. The more he forbade her from going, the more uneasy she felt.

She didn’t believe the message, so she wanted to confirm her belief, but Lewis stopped her.

Josephine hugged her head, forcing herself to think less about it. She told herself it had to be a

lie; that message was fake.

Dr. Halliday lurked in the corner and witnessed everything. At that moment, he dared not step forward because he was worried he might be caught in the crossfire.

Lewis came downstairs and started smoking on the sofa, one cigarette after another.

Hiding in the kitchen, Dr. Halliday eventually heard a loud smash from the living room.

He peeked and saw a mess on the floor. The ashtray was on the floor, cigarette butts littering all over. Fruits were scattered, and the plate was also on the floor.

Dr. Halliday gulped. He was not sure of the reason behind Lewis’ outburst. He quietly closed.

the kitchen door.

Shortly, the kitchen door was flung open, and Dr. Halliday’s hair stood on end.

Lewis gloomily stood at the doorway. He stared at Dr. Halliday and said, “Keep a close watch on her. I’ll cut you into pieces and feed the dogs if she takes one step out of this mansion.”

Lewis wasn’t purely threatening him; Dr. Halliday saw his intent to kill in his eyes.

The doctor recoiled and nodded vigorously.

After getting his response, Lewis left the mansion. In the car, he phoned Phineas.

“Send a few men over to stand guard.”

“Yes, sir.” Phineas didn’t know what happened. He could only follow the instructions given.

Locked in the room, Josephine thought of leaping out of the window, but Lewis had already. installed security windows. There was no way for her to escape.

She tried several times before giving up, sitting on the floor, exhausted.

She looked at the bag in her arms. She then took out her notebook and wrote down today’s
