Chapter 203 Can’t Survive
Josephine unwittingly tightened her grip on her phone when she saw him. She stood up, wanting to leave. Seth swaggered up to her. He grabbed her arm and yanked her back as she started to run away. Josephine fell onto the couch, her gaze fixed on him with caution.
Seth did not do anything to her. He sat down beside her and brushed the stray hairs by her ear. He chuckled and asked, “Am I that scary?”
Josephine’s tensed-up body said everything.
Seth placed his hand on her head. He stared at her for a few seconds before he continued, “It seems like you remembered.”
Josephine suppressed the fear in her heart and gestured, “What are you doing here?”
“Me? Naturally, I came to clear up your confusion. I’m sure you have a lot of questions now, am I right?” Seth smiled gently and stroked her head like she was a pet.
Josephine pursed her lips and remained silent. Indeed, she had a lot of questions, but she did not want to hear the answers from Seth, who had kept deceiving her.
Seth wasted no time as he pulled out a phone and tossed it onto her lap.
Josephine’s eyes fixed on the screen, her gaze flickering as she noticed a paused video displayed on it. Her heart skipped a beat when she realized it featured herself and Mr. Walter. Without thinking, she instinctively reached for the phone and pressed play. The video appeared to be edited, with an accelerated pace that quickly showcased the moment when Mr. Walter had gotten her drunk.
It wasn’t until Mr. Walter revealed the camera from its hidden corner that the pace of the video slowed down. Josephine fixed her gaze on the screen, noticing the presence of comments scrolling across it.
There was no doubt that the video had been clipped from a live stream. As the video played on, Josephine’s face grew increasingly pale. Her distress intensified when she witnessed Mr. Walter removing all her clothes. Reacting swiftly, she pressed the pause button and promptly returned the phone to Seth.
Seth tilted his head and looked at her. He said, “Do you know what happened now?”
Josephine’s lips trembled as she pressed them tightly together. The realization struck her with a heavy weight-thousands of people had seen her…
Josephine remembered the comments that she read and closed her eyes in despair.
“What, you can’t even accept this? This video would be more interesting If I didn’t come to your rescue back then,” Seth said.
Josephine’s eyes flew open. She silently pleaded with him, her gaze begging him to stop. Seth placed his arm on the backrest of the couch. He leaned closer to Josephine’s face and said, “Do you know why I was there?”
Without waiting for Josephine’s reply, he pressed on, “It’s because Lewis didn’t send anyone to save you. He had no intention of coming himself. Everything was orchestrated, including him telling you to meet Mr. Walter. You must be wondering what his plan was, aren’t you?”
Seth snickered before adding, “He planned to make me fall into his trap. He wanted to let Kiran know that I was on his side. So, this brings us back to the big question of why I came to
your rescue.”
The color drained from Josephine’s face as Seth spoke, leaving behind a deadly pallor. She stared at Seth’s smiling face and shook her head heavily. She could not and would never believe what he was saying. It was not because he lied. It was because the video would remain fake as long as she did not believe him. Seth could have forged the video to trick her.
Seth grabbed her chin and stopped her action. He said, “It’s fine if you don’t believe me now because you will one day. But you can’t deny the fact that Mr. Walter is dead.”
Josephine’s pupils contracted, and tears welled up in her eyes. Mr. Walter’s death was reported in the news. It aligned seamlessly with Seth’s words. 1
However, she couldn’t bring herself to fully believe him.
Seth rubbed her chin with his fingers, gazing into her eyes as he asked, “You’re not curious. about my reason for saving you?”
Josephine squeezed her fingers. She grimaced and fell into silence. Seth sighed and released
her chin.
“Nevermind,” he said.
Then, he stood up and added, “I’ll visit you another day. The incident with Mr. Walter has not
been concluded.”
Josephine sighed internally as she heard this. Seth turned to look at Josephine when he reached the door. “Were you not going to ask Lewis about Mrs. Jinkins’ whereabouts?”
Josephine was taken aback. Seth laughed and left without looking back. Josephine sat there for a moment. She raised her hand and gave herself a knock on the head before looking down at the phone on the couch. Seth did not take it with him. Either he forgot or intentionally left it for her to see.
Josephine stared at the phone for some time before reaching out to pick it up. She dragged the progress bar straight to the end. The sight of Mr. Walter’s lifeless face on the screen sent a shockwave through her, causing her to drop the phone.
Seth’s confession about murdering Mr. Walter had been true all along. Ignoring her pounding
headache, she set off toward Alvarez Corp after picking up the phone.
She arrived at the office and knocked on Lewis’ door.
“Come in.” Hearing his familiar voice, Josephine pushed the door open and went in.
Lewis was looking at some documents. He did not look up when Josephine came in.
Josephine approached him silently, her eyes fixed on his figure. Her grip on the phone tightened, but she did not know what to ask.
Should she confront him about his true intentions in sending her to meet Mr. Walter? Or perhaps question why he did not come to her rescue? She grappled with the dilemma, unsure of the grounds she had to demand answers from him.
