What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 229

Chapter 229 Adorable

Seth’s voice was gentle and seemed to bewitch her as he whispered.

Josephine’s eyes flickered, and she subconsciously clenched her fists.

After Seth had finished speaking, he looked at her solemnly and uttered, “Understand?”

Josephine nodded in a trance.

She must remember that, or she would rove the streets like last night and humiliate herself like yesterday.

“That’s a good girl.” Seth placed a finger on Josephine’s face. At that moment, Josephine realized they were too close to each other-more than they should be. She immediately backed up and distanced herself from Seth.

Seth narrowed his eyes and chuckled. “Adorable.”

His response caused Josephine’s eyes to twitch. She even started doubting if anything had happened between her and Seth-how else had they become so close?

Seth grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward him.

Josephine was shocked, but before she could respond, she was already in his embrace.

Seth bent and carried her bridal style. Josephine froze momentarily. Then, she struggled as hard as she could.

“Don’t move. I don’t give a damn if you fall.”

Josephine intuitively stopped moving, but her body was as rigid as a rock.

Then, Seth placed her on the sofa, squatted before her, and rolled up her pants.

Because of the rain, her pants and the bandage underneath were wet. Blood had seeped through the dressings and spread out in a light red, looking like a pattern had been imprinted

on it.

Josephine tensed up, bewildered. She didn’t know what he was up to.

Seth unwrapped the bandages on her legs, his hands going around her legs as he did so.

The bandage unraveled, gradually exposing the wounds on her legs. After being cooped up all night, her skin was whitish and wrinkled, but the flesh underneath it was purplish.

The scab that was supposed to form over her wound had become a gooey substance as a byproduct of the reaction between the clots and the medication. It was stuck to the bandage, causing excruciating pain when Seth removed the dressing as it came off together.

Seth seemed gentle but was actually the opposite. He tugged forcefully when the bandage got

stuck to the wound, and Josephine shuddered from the pain.

She clutched the sofa. Sweat beaded her forehead, and her pale lips quivered.

Seth casually thrust the bandage on the floor and scanned the room for the first-aid kit.

He attentively applied medication to Josephine’s wounds and dressed them with a roll of fresh bandages.

Josephine watched Seth, who was squatting before her, with mixed feelings.

After Seth finished dressing her wounds, he sat beside her and looked at her.

Josephine subconsciously averted her gaze.

Seth laughed. “You’re more cowardly now.” As he spoke, he pulled a notebook and purse from his pocket and gave them to her. “Don’t lose them again.”

Josephine stared at the items he held. She didn’t reach out.

Seth couldn’t be bothered. He hurled the items at her and stared at her for a while before leaving.

Josephine watched him leave and secretly heaved a sigh of relief.

She quickly opened the notebook and wrote down everything she remembered from these two days to ensure she could recall them if she ever forgot.

The scribbling sounds of her pen against the paper seemed loud against the silence in the house.

She was too deeply engrossed in her task to notice the person standing at the door.

It was some time before she finally noticed him.

Josephine turned her eyes upon the man at the door, who stared back at her.

Clutching her notebook, she intuitively closed it and hid it behind her.

Lewis saw her movements. He stood for a moment longer before walking toward Josephine.

Josephine watched him anxiously, her mind swirling with a flurry of thoughts.

Weren’t they divorced? Why was he here?

Lewis approached her and looked condescendingly at her. Then, he shifted his gaze to the hand hidden behind her back. “What are you hiding?”

Josephine shook her head and stuffed the notebook under her bottom. She signed, “Why are you here again?”

Lewis’ eyes narrowed. “Again? Have I been here before?”

Josephine was stunned, suddenly lost for words.

Lewis sat beside her with his eyes fixated on her. His eyes were calm and indifferent, but they seemed to penetrate her thoughts.

After a long while, Lewis smirked. “You forgot everything else but remembered clearly about the divorce.”

Upon hearing that, Josephine’s eyes widened in shock.

“Did he find out?” she thought to herself.

Lewis pulled out a notebook, too, and hurled it at her. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Josephine’s eyes flashed with emotions. She subconsciously picked up the notebook and read through it.

Time had passed, and it took her more than ten minutes to finish reading the notebook. Then, she looked up at Lewis.

He was expressionless as usual.

Josephine didn’t know what to say. She signed, “We’re divorced. It doesn’t matter anymore.”

Yesterday’s incidents still lingered in her memory. She remembered Sierra’s slap and the vaccination he instructed someone to administer for her.

Josephine couldn’t help but ponder, “So what is this now? Why is he here?”

His presence here was an irony.

Lewis took the notebook from her and said, “I have only one question for you. Were you in your right mind when you decided to get the divorce?”

Josephine shook her head. She had no clue.
