Chapter 236 Defending Her
Lewis raised his hand and scrolled down with the cursor. Eggplant and sweat droplets emojis filled the page.
Some kind-hearted people posted text comments instead of emojis like, “Chairman Alvarez, you got cuckolded,” and “Chairman Alvarez, someone has stolen your woman.”
Several commented, “Even Chairman Alvarez, who is handsome and wealthy, can be
cuckolded. Suddenly, I feel relieved,” and “If even Chairman Alvarez got betrayed, then tell me, what is love?”
“Thank you, Sierra, for sparing Chairman Alvarez. I’ll send you a big wedding gift when I marry him.”
“Sierra, you’re such an idiot!”
“Is it because Chairman Alvarez is impotent?”
Conrad secretly glanced at Lewis’ expression. As usual, he remained calm as he read through all those comments.
His reaction surprised Conrad, but before Conrad could say anything, Lewis slammed the laptop against the table. The loud noise echoed across the room.
“Go deal with it.”
Conrad quickly picked up his own laptop. “Do you mean Miss Woods?”
Lewis glanced at him. “These eggplants and sweat droplets.”
Conrad fell speechless. He nearly burst into laughter at the mention of “eggplants and sweat droplets” and tightly pinched his thigh to keep himself from laughing out loud.
“Yes!” Conrad’s face turned red, and he hastily rushed out with his laptop.
Inwardly, Conrad criticized those netizens for trivializing the situation. Their intention. seemed solely to mock Lewis, which ultimately tarnished his reputation. The people in the company were also aware of this matter.
As Conrad walked past the pantry, he heard waves of laughter coming from inside. Everyone was making fun of Lewis getting cuckolded.
However, as more and more people joined the eggplant army, the direction of the matter gradually shifted.
Suddenly, the fact that Sierra and Johan had checked into a hotel together seemed insignificant. Even the statements issued by both companies were overshadowed by the trending topic of Lewis getting cuckolded.
It seemed like these people had too much free time and enjoyed seeking amusement. They preferred to make fun of high-profile individuals rather than celebrity scandals.
Josephine also spent the day indulging in the gossip at the mansion.
She looked everywhere for news about Sierra, but all she could find were more posts from the eggplant army.
A bitter smile formed at the corner of Josephine’s lips as she saw how the netizens ridiculed Lewis.
Everyone felt indignant on Lewis’ behalf that Sierra stayed in the hotel with another man. It seemed like Sierra and Lewis were meant to be together in the eyes of the world.
Yet Josephine…
Who was she?
No one knew, and no one would ever know.
Even the people in Lewis’ circle didn’t recognize Josephine, so how could she expect those ignorant strangers to acknowledge her?
Just as Josephine was about to shut off her phone, another news article popped up.
When she saw that news, her gaze flickered.
It was a statement issued by Alvarez Group.
It consisted of only a few simple sentences stating that Sierra was with Lewis last night and that the leaked photos were fake.
Lewis did not sever ties with Sierra but chose to protect her. Moreover, this was essentially an implicit admission that Sierra was his girlfriend.
Josephine looked at the Alvarez Group’s official seal under the statement, and a slight pang of pain struck her heart.
If Lewis was with Sierra last night, then who was she with? Were those blurry images just a dream?
Closing her eyes, Josephine tossed her phone onto the sofa, curled up her legs, and hugged herself tightly.
The statement released by Alvarez Group was far more effective than that of Sierra and Johan’s companies.
However, most people didn’t believe it. Some people thought Lewis was obsessed with Sierra, while others believed he was only making the statement for the sake of his reputation.
Regardless of what people thought, it had to be said that once Sierra’s scandal broke out,
Lewis, the “victim,” was once again pushed into the trending topics, causing Alvarez Group’s stocks to rise by several points.
That was the power of capital operation. It was unfathomable. The netizens probably had not idea they were being played. They were still complacently enjoying the juicy gossip they had stumbled upon.
Even Sierra herself felt touched. She thought Lewis truly cared about her. She had been
worried and afraid that Lewis would distance himself from her, but she didn’t expect him to
defend her.
“Who are you looking for?” Mrs. Larson’s voice came from the doorway. Josephine looked up and saw that it was Nancy.
She hurriedly got up from the sofa and walked towards the door.
As soon as Nancy saw her, her face immediately fell. Nancy never liked Josephine, and Josephine was used to seeing this expression. She raised her hand and signed, “Mom, why are you here?”
Nancy could only understand the word “mom” and couldn’t comprehend the rest.
She walked past Josephine and entered the house. “Don’t flatter yourself. I am not your
mother.”
Josephine pursed her lips and followed behind her.
Mrs. Larson astutely poured a glass of water for Josephine. After Nancy sat down, Josephine
handed Nancy the glass.
Nancy raised her hand and knocked over the glass. The glass fell to the ground, causing water to spill all over Josephine’s clothes and wetting a large area on her chest.
“Josephine, I never knew you were so bold. How dare you return to cling to Lewis? What’s the matter? Did Lewis not give you enough money when you divorced?”
Josephine’s eyes trembled as she looked at Nancy in astonishment.
Josephine echoed her word in her mind, “Divorce?”
Nancy glanced at her. “Stop acting as if I have mistreated you every time. Ask yourself if the Alvarez family had ever mistreated you all these years.”
