What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 271

Chapter 271 I’m Here to Gift You Something

Lewis leaned against the headboard, and his pale lips curled into a cold smirk.

“I’d like to gift them something, of course.”

Conrad could feel chills traveling up his spine when he noticed the smirk. What was Lewis up

to this time?

He had no idea what the so-called gift meant. Could it be that Lewis wanted to get rid of Robert once and for all?

Lewis seemed to have sensed something. He shot a sideways glance at the IV drip connected to the back of his hand and quickly plucked it off without any hesitation.

Conrad widened his eyes in alarm.

After that, Lewis threw the covers off his body and got out of bed. His assistant quickly supported him while attempting to advise him. “Chairman Alvarez, the doctor has suggested you be hospitalized for the next few days. The injuries you sustained are very severe.’

Lewis shrugged Conrad’s hand away before grabbing his jacket. He asked impassively, “Will I die?”

That stunned the assistant. “Um, most likely not.”

Lewis draped the jacket over his shoulders while striding toward the door. “Then it’s all good.”

The corner of Conrad’s mouth started twitching involuntarily. He didn’t know what to say at that moment. Lewis didn’t care about his physique at all.

There was nothing he could do since Lewis insisted on getting discharged right away. Having decided to accept his fate, the assistant quickly caught up to his boss.

They soon arrived at the parking lot and got into Conrad’s car. Instead of starting the vehicle, Conrad turned around to say to Lewis, “Chairman Alvarez, the news of your accident hast gone viral. I think Master Robert and the others ought to know about it by now.”

Lewis sat in the backseat with his eyes closed. He grunted softly in response, not showing any emotions at all.

Conrad asked again, “Where are we going?”

“Fowler Manor.”

Conrad looked surprised for a moment, not expecting Lewis to travel all the way to Fowler Manor just to stir up some trouble.

As he drove toward their destination, he couldn’t help but complain about his boss mentally. When Robert called Lewis earlier, the latter refused to return to Alvarez Manor no matter

what. However, he regretted not doing so in the midst of looking through the contract. It was bad enough that Lewis got into a car accident on the way to the City Hall; not only did he not sign the contract, but he also lost Josephine to Quintin.

What the hell was that man trying to do?

Naturally, Conrad didn’t dare to say such things in front of Lewis. Hence, he could only drive silently.

It was almost 8 pm by then. Lights illuminated Fowler Manor at the moment. The Fowler family was currently having dinner together.

Damian’s heart skipped a beat out of anxiety when he heard the butler’s report.

“Why is he here?” Damian’s wife, Hilary Pearson, asked with a frown.

The butler shook his head in response. “I’m not sure. He’s waiting outside right now. Should I invite him into the mansion?”

Damian set his cutlery down, saying, “We can’t afford not to do that. What are you still standing there for? Go. Now.”

The older man’s first thought was that Quintin had caused trouble for him again. It was definitely no small matter, seeing as Lewis already decided to pay the family a visit.

Having reached that conclusion, Damian decided to personally welcome Lewis into the mansion.

He followed the butler out of the mansion, where Lewis could be seen getting out of the car.

Damian was momentarily stunned upon laying his eyes on Lewis.

It was still raining at that time. Conrad stood next to Lewis, holding an umbrella over their heads. The latter was clad in a black windbreaker, and despite having all the buttons done up, Damian still noticed the hospital gown peeking out from underneath the windbreaker.

Damian was confused by what he had seen. Was Lewis in the hospital earlier?

Lewis approached the older man while the latter was immersed in his thoughts.

Damian quickly squeezed out a smile as he welcomed him. “Mr. Alvarez, what a pleasant surprise! It would have been nice if you had informed us of your visit in advance so that we could have made some preparations for you!”

Lewis shot him a glance. “I’m here to gift you something, Mr. Fowler.”

Surprised, Damian gazed back in confusion. “Gift?”

He had a bad feeling at that moment. Even his smile became a lot more forced and insincere. ” Why did you decide to gift me something all of a sudden? What sort of gift requires you to personally come here and give it to me? I’m really honored!”

“You’re too courteous, Mr. Fowler. It’s customary for me to give you a wedding gift no matter the value, seeing as your son had gotten married.”

Damian’s eye twitched violently in response. “Got married? What are you-”

“Oh? Did Quintin not tell you anything?”

Damian could feel his legs starting to wobble. He swallowed dryly before replying, “Him? Married? Mr. Alvarez, please don’t joke about this. An old man like me is unable to handle such jokes. How is it possible for that useless son of mine to get married when I spent such a long time forcing him to marry someone?”

Lewis started walking toward Fowler Manor, seeing as he didn’t want to waste his breath on Damian. “If you don’t believe me, you can summon him here and ask him. I refuse to take back the gifts that I’ve given.”

Damian’s expression darkened instantly. He couldn’t help but curse at Quintin mentally while wondering who on earth did he marry to warrant Lewis’ immediate visitation.

If the woman Quintin married was just an insignificant character, Lewis would never bother wasting his time by delivering him the news after going through all the trouble of coming to Fowler Manor.

Suddenly, the older man remembered the woman he had bumped into at the shelter.

Could she be the one?

Not daring to waste more time, Damian quickly called Quintin’s number, only to realize he was blocked.

All he saw was red at that moment.

Damian extended a hand in the butler’s direction. “Give me your phone.”

When Quintin picked up the call, he was still having dinner with Josephine.

They were eating at the cafeteria. A cafeteria was built into the orphanage, so the occupants had to get food from the cafeteria during mealtimes.

He, Josephine, and Jack sat at a table together. Occasionally, a few acquaintances would pop over to greet them. Some were curious about Josephine’s identity, but Quintin always introduced her as his friend without going into detail.

Even though he and Josephine were married, their marriage might not last long. He didn’t want to ruin her reputation by introducing her as his wife.

The food at the cafeteria was pretty decent, but Josephine didn’t have much of an appetite. After taking only a few bites, she pushed her food around on her plate with her fork.
