What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 282

Lewis stopped in his tracks before shooting Conrad a sideways glance.

"Seem?"

Conrad looked a little surprised. "Um, that's what he said over the phone."

"You should think before you speak, Conrad. Report back to me once you find out what actually happened."

The assistant wiped the sweat off his brow while nodding hastily. "Understood, Chairman Alvarez. I'll start investigating right away."

Lewis ignored the flustered assistant by focusing his attention on Josephine, who was spacing out for no reason. He walked past Conrad so that he could approach her.

The young woman bowed her head, not knowing what to do.

Lewis gripped her wrist and dragged her into the mansion. Josephine kept sneaking glances in his direction as she trailed behind him.

Mrs. Larson quickly welcomed them home. "Madam. Master Lewis."

Josephine's heart skipped a beat when she heard the honorific.

Lewis gave Josephine a light push in Mrs. Larson's direction. "Change her clothes."

The housekeeper's expression shifted from surprise to an immediate smile as she responded, "Certainly, sir."

She then motioned for Josephine to follow her. "Come with me, Madam."

Josephine snuck a look in Lewis' direction. He had already walked over to a nearby couch and sat down by then.

She had no choice but to follow Mrs. Larson upstairs and to the walk-in closet, which was located inside her bedroom. The sight of the clothes surprised her once again.

The style of the clothes hung neatly in the walk-in closet differed completely from those in Seth's closet.

These clothes looked normal. At least, no one would stare at Josephine whenever she was in public.

Mrs. Larson asked Josephine to pick out her own clothes, so she simply chose a sweater and a white down jacket.

The housekeeper nodded approvingly after seeing Josephine in her new clothes. "You look much better in these clothes."

The latter pursed her lips without saying anything.

After that, Mrs. Larson turned on her heel and left the room. Josephine sat on the bed and pulled out her phone just to scroll through the apps to look for clues.

Once she was done, she noticed the notebook on the nightstand, prompting her to flip through it.

The information contained in the notebook was sparse compared to what was stored on her phone. Additionally, it appeared that several pages had been torn out of the notebook.

Josephine had no idea who did that. Once she was done rifling through the notebook, she tossed it back onto the nightstand.

The young woman had no idea where else she could go for now. Hence, she lay on the bed, staring at the rays of sunlight pouring through the window while spacing out.

No matter how reluctant she was, she had no choice but to accept the fact that Lewis had changed.

Meanwhile, Conrad went to the hospital just to confirm what had happened. It turned out that Jack wasn't dead at all. The man who was in charge of stalking Quintin was an absolute fool.

When he noticed Quintin sitting outside an operation room, he thought Jack was currently being operated on. That was why that idiot thought Jack was dead when he saw a body being pushed out of the operation room.

The truth was that Jack had already gotten transferred to a ward some time ago.

Quintin happened to be on a call at that time, so he took a seat outside that particular operation room.

Jack had lost too much blood, so he needed a blood transfusion. However, the blood bank didn't have enough blood packets of his blood type in stock at the moment, so Quintin was trying to come up with ways to secure more blood packets from other locations.

The man stood at the ward's doorway at that time. Soon, he noticed Conrad standing not too far away from him when he turned around.

Both of them caught each other by surprise.

After a brief moment of contemplation, Conrad made his way toward Quintin with purposeful strides. Quintin observed him cautiously, his grip on his phone tightening.

"Why are you here?"

Conrad remained silent while trying to word his response properly. "Mr. Quintin, I'm here to visit your friend."

That earned him a cold chuckle from Quintin. "Stop pretending. Just tell me what you want."

Conrad explained, "You should know very well that you and Miss Vance will never be together, Mr. Quintin. You should divorce her as soon as possible if you don't want to drag more people into this mess."

Quintin shot him a look before chortling softly. "Oh? Who else does he want to kill this time?"

"Mr. Quintin, why are you being so stubborn?"

The man replied, "He was the one who hurt Jack to this degree, yet he still wants me to divorce Josephine. Tell him to keep dreaming."

Jack was Quintin's friend as well as the most important person in his life. There was no way he could let bygones be bygones now that his beloved friend was fighting for his life in the hospital.
