Chapter 283 Can’t You Just Lie to Her
Josephine’s fingers twitched slightly as pain flared from her palms.
Lewis lowered his head, leaning in dangerously close. His hot breath brushed against her face as he demanded, “Who did you learn it from?”
The
young woman frowned slightly, not understanding what sort of question that was.
Lewis didn’t bother explaining himself. Instead, he freed one of his hands so that he could force Josephine to look at him. “Oh? Do you still not recognize me?”
The latter bit her lower lip while scanning his face for a moment. After that, she looked down in disappointment.
It wasn’t as though she didn’t recognize Lewis; she just didn’t want to accept that he was Lewis.
At that moment, Josephine’s phone started ringing again.
The man stared at her pocket. Someone must be calling her on the phone now, seeing as the ringtone blared without stopping.
Lewis reached into the pocket to fish her phone out. When he looked at the screen, he saw Quintin’s name on the caller ID.
The moment he saw it, he raised his head to glance at Josephine.
As for the latter, she didn’t even react to the name. After all, she had completely forgotten about what happened yesterday. Right now, Quintin was just a stranger who was on slightly friendly terms with her.
After hanging up on Quintin, Lewis tucked it back into Josephine’s pocket.
She struggled against his grip again, resulting in her captor releasing her from his hold.
The young woman wanted to bolt right after regaining freedom, but Lewis quickly pinned her against the door once more. Annoyed, she turned around to look at him.
“Have you taken your medicine?” he asked.
That question took Josephine by surprise. She remembered what she had read in the notebook. earlier; a reminder was scribbled on a page, telling her to take her medicine regularly.
However, she never did that.
Lewis tilted his head. “Go take your medications.”
Josephine stared at him for a while, soon realizing that he would never let her out of the room. as long as she refused to take the medicine. Hence, she walked toward the nightstand
defeatedly before grabbing the medicine from the drawer.
She then followed the instructions by putting two tablets into her mouth. After that, the young woman picked up a bottle of unopened mineral water from the nightstand, but she was unable to twist the bottle cap due to her injured palms.
At that moment, a slender hand reached out to take the bottled water from Josephine’s hands. Lewis unscrewed the bottle cap easily before handing it back to her.
After accepting it, she tilted her head and washed the medicine down with water.
Once Josephine was done, she gestured, “Can I leave now?”
Lewis tilted his chin slightly as a way to grant her request.
The young woman immediately got up to her feet and ran out of the room as quickly as she could.
Once she bounded down the stairs, she noticed Seth sitting on the couch as if he belonged there in the first place. At that moment, he was drinking tea Mrs. Larson had served.
Josephine jogged to his proximity while staring at him the whole time.
Seth spared her a glance before flashing a smile at her. “Take a seat.”
Instead of doing what she was told, she continued to stare at him. After all, she still found it hard to believe that she had an actual brother.
The
young woman kept staring at Seth as though she was trying to remember every inch of his face.
Seth perked up when a certain thought crossed his mind. He set the teacup down before extending a hand in Josephine’s direction. “Where’s your phone?”
The latter dug around in her pocket. Having felt the item, she fished it out and passed it to
Seth.
Seth tapped on Whatsapp and started fiddling with the settings. Soon, he changed his nickname to “My Brother.”
After that, he also changed his nickname on Josephine’s contact list. Only then did he return. the phone to her. “That way, you’ll definitely remember me.”
The young woman could care less about what Seth did to her phone. She gestured, “You claim to be my older brother, so where’s my home?”
Seth chuckled lightly before casting a meaningful glance at her.
Josephine couldn’t help but feel uneasy when she noticed the look. Still, she tilted her head innocently while waiting for the man’s reply.
She was starting to get nervous as well. If Seth truly was her older brother, did that mean she
could go home soon?
“I thought you liked it a lot here and didn’t want to go home at all.”
Stunned by Seth’s response, Josephine quickly shook her head in response.
The former wanted to continue speaking when he suddenly heard footsteps behind him. Both he and Josephine turned around to see Lewis descending the stairs.
“Who allowed him into the mansion?” he questioned.
Mrs. Larson was the only one in the living room at the moment. Obviously, that question was aimed at her.
A look of embarrassment appeared on her face. The poor housekeeper could only stammer, not knowing what to say.
Seth stood up from the couch right away, a small smile curled on his lips. “Didn’t you invite. me on a business trip to Hardington, Chairman Alvarez? I came here in advance just to wait for you. It shouldn’t be a problem for you, right?”
Lewis ripped his gaze from the man’s face to Josephine’s.
It was clear that Josephine’s expression had changed when she saw Seth. She really thought of him as her actual brother.
Lewis started walking toward Seth while gazing at him icily.
The latter continued smiling while returning the gaze coolly. An invisible battle seemed to have erupted between both of them as they stared at each other.
Suddenly, Lewis said to Josephine, “Go back to your room.”
The latter, who was supposed to follow his order, glanced at Seth instead.
Lewis’ expression darkened once again upon noticing Josephine’s pause. “Go back to your
room!”
Poor Josephine shivered in fright.
Seth couldn’t help but laugh softly. “Why are you being so fierce? Don’t scare my little sister away. Josie, you should return to your room.”
After a moment’s hesitation, the young woman finally returned to her room quietly.
Even though Lewis continued to wear a poker face, the veins on his temple were already throbbing madly.
“You can’t keep going on like this, Chairman Alvarez. She doesn’t remember anything at the end of the day. Can’t you just lie to her?”
Seth continued, “You’ve always been a great actor, Chairman Alvarez. Why can’t you act
around her?”
Lewis took a seat diagonally across from Seth while continuing to gaze at him coldly. “No one is superior to you in terms of acting skills, Mr. Fairchild.”
