What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 289

Chapter 289 A Name in Her Mind

With that, Lewis suddenly glanced at Josephine.

Josephine seemed puzzled. She couldn’t quite get what Lewis meant.

Could it be that…

She raised her head and met Lewis’ mysterious gaze with her curious eyes, waiting for him to

answer.

Lewis briefly stared at her and subtly shifted his gaze elsewhere without answering her question.

Josephine lowered her head and looked at her pale face reflected on her wristwatch.

She played with the watch’s bezel as the screen continuously changed. Josephine asked herself, “Is this the 360-degree seamless recorder?” Then, she adjusted the angle and captured Lewis in the frame.

Lewis had his arm around her shoulder, his expression calm. His brows were slightly furrowed, and his gaze was fixed on something outside the window. He seemed lost in thought.

Seth glanced at the two through the rearview mirror and silently smiled.

Gerald rummaged through the glove compartment and pulled out a shriveled orange before handing it to Josephine. “Take a sniff of this. It should make you feel better. We still have a bit of a journey to the hotel.”

Josephine grabbed the orange from Gerald and sniffed it, but it didn’t have much effect. She still felt a bit nauseous.

Suddenly, Seth spoke, “Chairman Alvarez, you can take Josephine on the motorcycle.”

It was one of Hardington’s unique features. There were many dedicated motorcycle lanes here, and many people would come to rent motorcycles to ride on the scenic streets.

Gerald chuckled and said, “Yeah, you should definitely try it out. But it’s better to do it at night when the roads are less dusty.”

Lewis remained silent the entire time.

Despite feeling queasy, Josephine endured the journey until they reached the hotel. By the time they arrived, she was on the verge of passing out.

After exiting the car, she hurried to a nearby trash bin and vomited uncontrollably.

Gerald instructed someone to help them with their luggage while Seth left the two of them and followed the staff into the hotel.

Standing beside Josephine, Lewis supported her and patted her back. After Josephine finished vomiting, Lewis asked, “Feeling better?”

Josephine patted her chest and nodded weakly, her face pale.

Lewis took a bottle of mineral water from Gerald and handed it to Josephine.

She took a few sips, and her stomach gradually settled. She returned the bottle of water to Lewis, but Gerald took it from her before she could.

Lewis held Josephine’s hand and led her into the hotel.

Gerald owned this hotel. It was a five-star hotel located by the sea with beautiful scenery.

He had assigned them to a floor that offered the best view. They could gaze upon the endless sea outside while lying on the bed.

“Well, Chairman Alvarez, you two rest well. Just give me a call if you need anything. Let’s have dinner together later,” Gerald said.

Lewis nodded slightly, indicating that he could leave.

Gerald tactfully exited the room and closed the door behind him.

Josephine gazed at the grey decor, feeling somewhat absent-minded. It was rare to see a hotel with such interior design, but the projection of the sea and the blue sky with white clouds. outside made the room very bright.

It seemed cold yet somewhat romantic.

Lewis took off his jacket and casually threw it on the sofa before sitting beside her and loosening his tie.

“Get some rest if you’re feeling unwell.”

Josephine stared at him in a daze. Unsure if it was the brightness outside or the reflective floor, Lewis’ eyes seemed to be shining.

She nodded and removed her thick sweater before climbing onto the bed and lying down.

Josephine indeed felt tired after the exhausting journey. Her eyelids were drooping as soon as her head touched the pillow.

The breeze from the balcony drifted in, gently brushing her cheeks. It felt comfortable.

Before she knew it, she fell asleep.

Sitting by the side of the bed, Lewis gazed at her peaceful sleeping face. He then reached out and gently smoothed the stray strands of hair near her ear.

Then, he stood up and went to the balcony to smoke.

24

Gazing at the vast sea ahead, he got lost in thought.

When Josephine woke up from her nap, it was already past 7 pm.

She opened her eyes and saw darkness outside, with scattered lights twinkling on the sea’s surface. The slightly cool breeze carried a faint scent of the ocean, causing her tense nerves to relax a bit.

It turned out that beautiful scenery could truly heal one’s mood.

However, she couldn’t remember anything. She was still somewhat dazed when she first woke up. It took her a while to recall that Lewis had brought her here for a trip.

Sitting up on the bed, Josephine looked around the room, but it was empty.

The white curtains fluttered slightly, and the light cast a chilly, gray hue on the floor, creating a different kind of solitude.

Josephine quickly threw off the blanket and got out of bed. She searched the room, but there was no sign of Lewis. The unfamiliar surroundings, which had seemed romantic, now made her feel somewhat fearful.

She hurried back into the room, took out her phone, and messaged Lewis, asking him where he was.

After waiting a long and agonizing fifteen minutes, Josephine finally received Lewis’ message.

It consisted of just a few short words.

“I’m outside. Wait a moment. Don’t wander around.”

Josephine breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving his reply. Right when she was about to put down her phone, another message popped up.

It was from Quintin.

“Josephine, where are you? Have you eaten? Are you with Lewis?”

Facing a string of questions, Josephine didn’t know which one to answer first, so she chose

not to reply.

Quintin was merely a name in mind. She couldn’t remember anything about him. She only knew he existed.

Tossing her phone aside, she lay on the bed and waited for Lewis.
