What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 318

Josephine's head snapped up as she realized the yacht had run aground. It seemed to be a small island as the shore only had a small beach area, and beyond it lay a jungle. Her eyes lit up as she glanced back down at the man in her embrace.

The sun rose from the horizon as dawn broke, and the warm morning light shone on them. She took in his firmly shut eyes, pale complexion, and the bits of dried blood on his face. His expression was calm, making it seem like he was merely asleep. Lifting a finger, she placed it underneath his nostrils and relaxed when she felt his faint, warm breath before slumping back onto the deck.

Gingerly shifting the towel on his back aside, she was delighted to see that the bleeding had already stopped. However, blood began to trickle out again just as she removed it, so she immediately pressed it back.

Looking at Lewis' chapped lips, she pondered for a moment before picking up the clean towel, dipping it in the sea, and trickling a few drops over his lips. She shifted herself so that he was now leaning against her, and she cradled his cheeks in her hands, just like how he used to hold her.

She repeatedly called his name, hoping that he would open his eyes and look at her. She didn't know what to do at this moment and didn't dare to take her hand off his back, fearing that he would start bleeding again.

She was also hungry, but her body was so used to it that it didn't even growl, and she was also out of energy. She observed the sun's gradual ascent from the horizon, reaching its zenith in the sky before gradually descending towards the west. As her vision started to blur, she thought she would probably die soon too.

She leaned her face against Lewis' head and closed her eyes, not feeling fearful at all as he was there with her. As long as he was by her side, she could face anything calmly, even death, and thankfully she could even die with him. "That's great," she thought. They would be together even in death, and no one could ever separate them again.

Closing her eyes, she quietly waited for death to come. However, it was at this moment that she heard a faint groan. Her eyelids flew open, and she looked down to see that Lewis' brows were furrowed and his eyelashes were quivering—these were signs that he was waking up.

"Louie!" she exclaimed, joy and relief infused in the only word she could utter. She repeated this a few times until he gradually opened his eyes. At first, his gaze seemed unfocused, fixated on her chest before he slowly lifted his head, his eyes locking with Josephine's blood-stained face.

His lips were barely moving, and it took some time before he weakly said, "Josie."

She nodded her head fervently in acknowledgment.

He raised his hand with much effort but could only lift it partially before it dropped exhaustedly back down. "Where are we?"

As Josephine surveyed her surroundings, she could only see an expanse of seawater bathed in a mesmerizing golden hue cast by the setting sun.

She shook her head to indicate she didn't know.

Lewis closed his eyes for a few minutes before forcing his weak body to sit up. Josephine kept her hand pressed against his wound as he moved.

"Go and see if there's anything in the yacht's cargo hold to eat," he looked around before saying.

She hesitated, not daring to release the pressure she placed on the towel.

"Bring me that jacket," Lewis instructed.

She quickly obliged, reaching out a hand to grab the windbreaker that she had previously taken off.

"Use it to keep the towel in place."

She did as instructed and folded the windbreaker before placing it against his back. She then wrapped one sleeve over his shoulder and the other below his armpit before tying them together to secure the towel in place. It was only then she was able to check the cargo hold with peace of mind. She searched all the storage boxes and found some food, a box full of bottled water, a bag of hardtack biscuits, and a few other beverages and wine. Interestingly, she even found three sets of bathrobes.
