What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 335

Josephine blinked. It only took a split second for her eyes to light up, joy filling them to the brim.

She nodded quickly before enveloping him in a bone-crushing hug.

A muffled groan arose in response, and she released him immediately. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

She must have aggravated his incision site on accident.

Her excitement about the upcoming hot air balloon ride had completely made her overlook the fact that he'd just had surgery.

Lewis pressed his arm against his abdomen, but it didn't take long before he regained his composure.

He pulled her into his embrace and forced a smile. "It's okay. I'm fine."

Josephine stared at him in confusion. He didn't seem fine at all.

After a while, she signed, "I think we should go back to the hospital. I don't want to go on the hot air balloon anymore."

Lewis' eyes glistened as he cupped her face with one hand. "Why not?"

"I just don't want to. My stomach doesn't feel well."

Lewis scrutinized her closely, trying to ascertain whether or not she was lying.

Josephine did not back down either. She wished he would stop forcing himself for her sake.

Before he could reply, his phone rang. It was Seth.

Lewis was just about to end the call when he hesitated, his finger hovering above the call button.

Eventually, he accepted the call and placed his phone to his ear. "What?"

Seth's voice reached him promptly. "Conrad's afraid that you'd die out there. He even called me to ask if I'd seen you. Where are you?"

Lewis' brows furrowed in annoyance. "Mind your own business."

"Do you think I love meddling in your affairs? You can die wherever you want, whenever you please, but you better bring Josephine back before you do."

Lewis laughed coldly. "And why would I do that?"

Seth sighed. A moment's silence passed before he spoke. "Because she should get to pay her respects to her ancestors."

His words have lost their previous lightness, their weight apparent even through the phone.

Unexpectedly, Lewis did not retort. His gaze shifted to her direction, but she did not respond, entirely oblivious to their conversation.

"Don't just think about yourself all the time, Lewis. Bring her back. At the very least, she should be able to connect with her ancestry and heritage before it's too late. Before she—you know—dies—"

"Shut your bloody ass mouth, Seth!" Lewis bellowed so abruptly that even Seth was startled. "If you speak of such nonsense again, I'll never let you see her!"

Even with his shock, Seth recovered his composure swiftly enough. "I'm speaking nonsense? Who do you think caused this mess in the first place? What's the point of you bringing her to all these places, huh? Would she even remember this, years down the line? Are you trying to fulfill her wishes or assuage your own guilt?"

He paused for a breath before continuing, "I'm done trying to talk sense into you. Just bring her back here now, or else I'm sending someone down to get her myself."

The call ended after his resounding threat.

Lewis glanced at the phone and then at Josephine.

The latter was so unsuspecting, so unaware of the situation they were both in. She gestured in anticipation, "Are we going back now?"

Lewis fell silent, observing the hot air balloons that were faintly visible in the distance. "Are you sure you really don't want to go?"

Josephine nodded resolutely. "I don't. Let's go back."

Lewis massaged his temples before sighing. "Fine. Whatever you want."

True to his word, when they finally arrived at their destination, Lewis simply took her hand as she gazed at the slowly ascending hot air balloons without boarding one. Upon beholding the colorful balloons floating midair, a spark of admiration crossed her face. The sight itself was spectacular. Josephine couldn't help but wonder what it would feel like to board one.

What would it feel like to fly?

She was seized by the incessant fantasies that tugged at her heartstrings as she daydreamed, allowing the wondrous visions to fill her mind. Then, she tugged at Lewis' hand and indicated that it was time to leave.
