What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 338

Josephine was crying uncontrollably. She couldn't argue back at all.

Seth's voice echoed in her mind. He said she deserved to die, but he was right. She had forgotten her own parents. Of course, she deserved to die.

Looking at her sitting on the ground in a sorrowful state, Seth sneered. The mocking smile on his lips grew more evident.

Lewis had appeared out of nowhere. He bent down to lift Josephine from the ground. Glancing at Seth, he frowned slightly, seemingly displeased with Seth for making Josephine cry.

"Are you out of your mind?" Lewis asked, his voice laced with a hint of anger.

Seth shrugged indifferently. "I didn't say anything."

He added, "Anyway, she'll forget soon enough. It doesn't matter."

With that, he turned and left the cemetery. The sky grew dim, and his figure faded in and out within the cemetery until he disappeared from sight.

Still crying non-stop, Josephine clung to Lewis. In one moment, she had been happily exploring the flower garden, and in the next, she became a true orphan, having lost everything.

Now, all she had was Lewis. If Lewis abandoned her one day, she really would have nothing left. After all, up until now, every fragment of her memories revolved around him.

He was her whole world.

Lewis gently stroked her back and whispered, "Stop crying. I'm still here, right?"

Josephine looked up, her tears blurring her vision. She stared at Lewis intently.

After a moment, she signed, "Louie, please don't abandon me."

Lewis lowered his gaze and looked at her outstretched finger. His eyes flickered momentarily.

Then, he cupped Josephine's face and softly said, "I won't. As long as you obey me, I won't abandon you."

Josephine nodded vigorously, her fingers moving anxiously. "I will. I will listen to you obediently. I'll do everything you say."

She signed rapidly, tears streaming down her face. Her fingers moved faster than usual as if desperately trying to assure Lewis that she would obey him.

She was afraid he wouldn't believe her if she was too slow.

Lewis caressed her cheek with his large hand and pulled her into his arms.

Josephine pressed her cheek against his chest, listening to his strong and steady heartbeat. Her restless heart gradually calmed down as she smelled the faint scent of gardenia on his clothes.

She cried for a long time before slowly regaining her composure.

Lewis held her hand and walked out of the cemetery. Like the villa, the cemetery was overgrown with weeds, with only a few rows of tombstones hidden among the grass. As the wind blew, the sound of rustling grass filled the air.

As the two of them left, the cemetery returned to silence. The tombstones in the grass stood quietly in the twilight, appearing somewhat out of place amidst the lush greenery.

Once they got into the car, Lewis handed Josephine a bottle of water.

She took a few sips of the mineral water before Lewis started the car and left the place.

They went back to the hospital, but not the one where Lewis got hospitalized. Instead, they went to the hospital where Josephine had been treated before.

The senior doctor was still celebrating the New Year at home when Gerald dragged him to the hospital, and he seemed quite unhappy about it.

The first thing he did was to have Josephine take an X-ray.

Then he discussed Josephine's condition with Lewis.

The doctor looked somewhat surprised. "Are you saying that she only has memories from before ten?"

Lewis nodded slightly. "Yes."

"For how long?"

Lewis pondered for a moment. "A little over half a month. Her daily memory is currently normal. She doesn't wake up every day forgetting what happened the day before, like before."

The doctor's expression became perplexed. "This is an unusual case. I'll have to do some research."

"I just want to know if her memory will continue to deteriorate or under what circumstances it might deteriorate."
