Both of them pondered for a while and shook their heads. "No, there was only a swaddling cloth, nothing else."
Lewis lowered his gaze and fell into deep thought.
The elderly lady asked again, "Sir, can we visit Sierra now?"
"Conrad, arrange for someone to take them to the hospital."
Conrad nodded and extended his hand to guide the two elders out. Feeling relieved, the two elders followed Conrad out.
After seeing them off, Conrad returned and asked, "Chairman Alvarez, do you want to send someone to investigate this matter?"
"Don't you think there's something suspicious?"
"What do you mean?"
Lewis glanced at Conrad but didn't explain anything. He got up and walked out.
Meanwhile, Josephine held onto the lunchbox Mrs. Larson had brought to the hospital and gobbled down the food. It was as if she hadn't eaten in centuries.
Mrs. Larson said, "Mrs. Alvarez, please slow down. There's more here."
Josephine didn't seem to hear her. She only picked the meat from the bowl and left all the vegetables aside.
She didn't know why she was so hungry, but she was craving meat.
After finishing the meal, Josephine let out a satisfied burp. Feeling content, she patted her belly and handed the cutleries to Mrs. Larson.
"When can I go home?" she asked.
It was the eighth time Josephine had asked the same question since waking up. Mrs. Larson answered impatiently, "You can go home when you get better."
Josephine's shoulders drooped. She felt as though it had been a long time since she last saw her parents, and she yearned to go home.
Seeing her desolate expression, Mrs. Larson wanted to comfort her but didn't know what to say.
Outside, Lewis stood at the door without entering. He seemed lost in thought. Then, he turned to ask Conrad, "Did Quintin sign the divorce papers?"
Conrad hesitated briefly, then quickly took out his phone and called Damian.
"I'll ask now!"
Soon, the call got through, and Damian's flattering laugh came from the other end of the line. "Hello, Mr. Berg."
"Mr. Fowler, it's been almost a week. Are the divorce papers signed?"
"Yes, yes. I'll send it over tomorrow."
"Okay," Conrad replied. He then turned to look at Lewis, who seemed unhappy. He hurriedly added, "Quintin has to deliver the document personally."
"What? Can't I get someone else to deliver it?"
"Of course not. The divorce wouldn't be approved unless Quintin is present himself."
"But Quintin has been bedridden recently. I don't think he can go. How about waiting for a couple more days?"
Damian had the signed divorce agreement, but he was the one who had signed it.
He had intended to go with the flow and slowly convince his son to accept the divorce. However, he hadn't anticipated that Quintin would need to be present for this process.
Now, Damian was really caught in a dilemma.
On the one hand, he faced mounting pressure from Lewis, and on the other hand, he had to deal with his son's desperate and stubborn attitude. It left him wondering what steps he could take to navigate this delicate situation.
In the midst of it all, Damian realized that engaging in a conflict with Lewis over a girl like Josephine wasn't worth it.
Conrad sought Lewis' opinion again, and from his expression, it was evident that there was no room for negotiation.
Conrad could only warn Damian. "Mr. Fowler, if Quintin doesn't deliver the divorce agreement within three days, we will visit you personally."
"Oh, Mr. Berg ..."
"Mr. Fowler, you'd better find a way to get Quintin to sign it as soon as possible."
After saying this, Conrad ended the call and awkwardly glanced at Lewis.
Ignoring him, Lewis pushed open the door and made his way into the ward.
Josephine was lying lazily on the bed with her phone at the bedside. She was watching an animated show that Mrs. Larson had shown her.
She was so absorbed in the show that she didn't notice Lewis entering the room.
Lewis watched her for a while. Moments later, Josephine finally noticed him and turned to look at him.
Her eyes instantly lit up when she saw him. Quickly, she got up from the bed. "You finally came! I was getting so bored. When can I be discharged?"
Lewis was somewhat fascinated by how fluent she could speak.
