Kiran's face turned pale as he stared fixedly at Lewis.
After a long while, he composed himself and returned to normal.
"Chairman Alvarez, stop joking around. This is your family matter. How could I possibly have any thoughts about it?" Kiran said.
However, Lewis had no intention of letting him off the hook. He pressed on. "Then where did you get my father's will? I believe I'm not the only one curious about this. Everyone here must feel the same way."
Indeed, this was a difficult question to answer. If Kiran said Robert passed him the will, it would raise suspicions about their relationship. It could also implicate him in the inheritance dispute and Oberon's death.
On the other hand, if he claimed to have obtained it from elsewhere, he might be accused of fabricating the will. Kiran couldn't seem to find the correct answer.
The room fell even quieter. Everybody shifted their gazes from Lewis to Kiran. They were waiting for his response.
Kiran adjusted his glasses and smiled faintly. "Mrs. Alvarez gave it to me. She wanted me to have someone verify it. Chairman Alvarez, if you don't believe me, you can ask Mrs. Alvarez."
Lewis also smiled.
Their eyes met. Both of them seemed to be wearing ambiguous smiles. It was as if they had reached some sort of understanding.
The will was fake, and both of them knew it.
Robert indeed had another will, but nobody knew where it was.
Now that Kiran claimed Nancy gave him the will, it was an opportunity to shift the blame onto Milo.
Therefore, the missing will would no longer exist. If Nancy were to produce her version in the future, it would undoubtedly be fake.
After a moment, Lewis smiled and said, "I see. So, it seems that this will is genuine."
He then changed the topic. "Since both wills are authentic, which one should be considered valid?"
Kiran replied, "Naturally, the notarized will should be considered valid. As Mr. Addley mentioned earlier, the will was altered, most likely by Mr. Robert himself.
"So, the will Chairman Alvarez has is authentic, and the one on the table is likely an abandoned version. This also explains why the will was only modified instead of revoked and why it wasn't notarized."
With this statement, Kiran was basically admitting defeat.
Lewis lit a cigarette, took a few puffs, and turned to look at Zach.
"So, do you have any further questions?"
Zach exchanged glances with the police officer beside him.
"Now that we've solved the will incident, my task is complete. Mr. Acre's death is a homicide case, and it falls under the jurisdiction of the police. They will handle it themselves."
With that, he picked up his bag. "I apologize for taking up everyone's time today, but I wanted to clarify the situation as soon as possible. Thank you all for your understanding. I'll take my leave."
He left the conference room with his team, and the police took Milo away.
Now, only the members of the Alvarez family remained in the room.
With his injured arm still in a cast, Kiran also lit a cigarette and started smoking. He seemed somewhat resolute.
Seth leaned back in his chair and applauded. "Impressive."
Kiran glanced at him and replied, "You don't seem surprised."
Seth chuckled. "Regardless of today's outcome, I wouldn't have been surprised. But this result was indeed within my expectations."
Seth had long noticed how Lewis didn't take any action and willingly cooperated with the investigation. He suspected Lewis had set a trap.
He knew Lewis well enough. He knew Lewis wouldn't have cooperated so obediently if he realized he was in trouble. Lewis would have tried to escape or resolve the situation in his own way.
Lewis casually discarded his cigarette into the ashtray and stood up.
