What Separates Me and You novel Chapter 448

Lewis cast a sidelong glance at him. "You have too many questions."

"I'm just concerned about you," Tyler said.

Lewis chuckled. "Isn't it a bit late to be concerned now?"

Tyler was stunned.

He understood that Lewis was referring to the issue with the will. When Lewis faced legal problems, many wanted to avoid being associated with him.

However, Tyler did so because he didn't have any choice. Thomas, his father, had harbored resentment ever since Lewis had manipulated Avery.

Hence, he didn't allow his children to get involved with Lewis when Lewis was in trouble. Thomas thought he was already being kind enough for not taking advantage of Lewis in that situation.

As for lending a helping hand, that was entirely out of the question.

Tyler couldn't deny that his father's decision had been wise. If he had harmed Lewis back then, Lewis wouldn't have assisted them in the search for Avery now.

As for those who had provoked Lewis, they must be anxiously regretting their choices.

Lewis was revengeful. Those who had crossed him would undoubtedly face his retaliation. Things would never end well for them.

Tyler couldn't explain himself to Lewis. He sighed and offered an apology.

Lewis raised his hand and patted Tyler's shoulder. "No need to apologize. You wanted to protect yourself, and it's better you didn't intervene. I was worried you guys might make things worse."

Lewis' arrogant response made Tyler laugh. "You're quite something."

"Alright, I'll go check somewhere else. Call me if there's any news."

After saying that, Lewis turned and left with Conrad.

Watching his retreating figure, Tyler sighed.

Warren, who had been silent all this while, suddenly said, "Is the matter between him and Kiran not solved yet?"

Tyler shifted his gaze and shook his head. "I don't know. It should be coming to an end soon."

Warren began to worry about his younger brother. He hoped Quintin wouldn't provoke Lewis anymore if he managed to survive this ordeal.

If Kiran were to fall, the power balance within the Alvarez family would tip heavily in favor of Lewis. Not to mention he had taken over the Moss family. Lewis might become bolder if no one was there to control him.

Josephine dreamt of what happened that day in her restless sleep. She witnessed the scene where Avery and Quintin fell from the overpass in an attempt to save her.

Dreaming of their tragic end, she jolted up from her sleep.

Staring at the faint sunlight outside the window, Josephine breathed heavily. Her forehead was drenched in sweat.

After a moment, she got up and searched for her phone.

She found her old phone in a cabinet. But it was switched off.

She turned on her phone and dialed Avery's number.

However, it was turned off.

She then tried calling Quintin, but his phone was also off.

Josephine panicked. She went through her contacts. But she didn't know who else to call.

All of a sudden, the bedroom door swung open. Josephine's phone slipped from her hand. She bent down to grab it. When she glanced up, a feeling of alarm came over her.

It was Lewis.

He seemed to have just returned from somewhere. He felt somewhat cold. He hadn't even removed his coat yet.

He came closer to Josephine and saw her phone on the ground.

Josephine quickly picked it up and hid it behind her back. She looked up at him pleadingly. "Please don't take my phone."

Lewis reached out to grip her arm and help her up from the floor.

"I won't take your phone. You can't leave anyway." He pulled two tissues from the bedside table and wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Having a nightmare? You're sweating quite a bit."

He acted as if everything was normal like before. It was as if nothing had ever happened.

Josephine grabbed his sleeve. Her voice trembled as she asked, "Where is Avery? Is she okay?"

"They found her. She's alive."

After looking through all the surveillance videos and searching nearby towns, they found where Avery and Quintin were. They had fallen into the river. Luckily, a passing boat rescued them and took them to a nearby hospital.

"Are you hungry?"

Josephine turned her head away. Right now, all she wanted was to escape from his presence. Every second she spent with him felt suffocating.

Lewis continued, "I'll take you to see Avery."

Stunned, Josephine stared at him.

He always knew how to manipulate her, leaving her no way to refuse.

Now, he was even more unrestrained than before. He wouldn't even bother to put up a faꞔade before her anymore.

He was displaying his cold-blooded nature before her without any pretense.

Lewis observed her reaction closely and called out to the door, "Come in."

A few seconds later, Mrs. Larson entered with a tray in hand.

Aside from the meal, there was also a large bowl of herbal concoction.

Lewis took the tray and handed it to Josephine. "Eat up. Once you're done, I'll bring you there."

Josephine lowered her head, her messy hair falling over her face and obscuring most of it.

Patiently, he held the tray and waited for her to make a move.

After a moment, Josephine closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She then wiped away the tears from her face with her sleeve. Then, she picked up the cutleries before stuffing the food into her mouth.

She seemed like a lifeless robot.

She couldn't taste anything, but she cleared all the food. After that, she picked up the bowl of herbal concoction and chugged it.

She hated the herbal concoction before, yet she downed it without any hesitation now.

She didn't need his coaxing anymore.

Lewis stared at her intently. Although his face didn't show much emotion, his fingers holding the tray turned white.

There were faint traces of blood seeping through the gauze on the back of his hand.
